I had my surgery yesterday morning and was able to eat small amounts of the liquid diet no problem.

Today, when a take a sip of broth or couple licks of a sugar free Popsicle, my stomach seizes up on me and then gurgles and then it's ok. I know I need to ask my doc about this but he isn't readily available. Did this happen to anybody? Did it eventually go away? I'm freaking out that this is what eating is going to be like from now on. (Its not pleasant). Really hope some folks with experience can put my mind at ease!!!

Sounds normal to me. maybe the extreme temperatures are not so good right now. stick to room temperature stuff for a couple of days. warm tea is the best! the gurgles are normal. that gets better over time. it wont be unpleasant for all that long, i promise :)

That's how I was but it went away within a few days! It made eating unpleasant and the first few days being home from the hospital I didn't even want Water because I felt this way! Just remember your stomach is adjusting so things will be a little different at first! Mind over matter - it will all be worth it!!! Hang in there, just eat slow! :)

I was just converted from a band to the sleeve on the 8th of last month. And I can 100% relate to what you are feeling. I had the exact same thing in the hospital. I was only able to get 1/2 a popsicle down at each meal. broth was not even an option for me. I was also given Jell-O. I thought I would be sick if I even tried it. I was about 10 days post-op before the jitters regarding food went away. Now I am 3 1/2 weeks post op and tonight I had really finely chopped chicken and grilled onions for dinner. I skipped the peppers and rice that my family had, but what I ate made me satisfied, and I am no hungry at all. I always joked that only skinny women forgot to eat. I have forgotten a lot of things, my keys appointments, and even to brush my teeth, but never forgot to eat, that is until now. I will look at my watch and see that it's time to get my daughter from school, and I haven't eaten all day. lol I have to work on that. But to answer your question, yes it's normal, and will pass. If you continue to have problems I would call the doc, they would rather have you call and put you at ease over something trivial than not call and it be important. Best of luck to you. This journey is not an easy one, but it will be well worth it in the end!

Thanks all for the quick replies and putting my mind at ease. Just talked to nurse and she said it's very normal. I feel a ton better now.

Hi All - today was much, much better. I was able to do 10 sips of my Protein Shake for Breakfast and and 10 more for lunch with no issues. I've also been sipping Water as much as possible and again no issues. I've done a lot of walking so the extra gas isn't as bad but I still have a bit lingering. I got to come home today (so happy) but it's a tad tough getting around - especially getting in and out of bed. Need to stay on liquids until Friday then I get to add Greek yogurt (plain or vanilla), blended Soups such as lentil, black bean and vegetable (no meats), thin oatmeal, cream of wheat, thin unsweetened applesauce, grits and a few other sugar free options that I won't be doing as I don't like/believe in artificial sweeteners. So glad you were all there for me at a really down moment -- can't express enough how much it meant to me and put my mind at ease!!!!

Completely normal. Just go slow and sip. After that spasm and gurgle I always had to burp then it was all good :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
