Pre-op I was taking Gummy Vitamins ( you know, those Vitamins that are like gummy bears?). Are these ok to take post-op? I've tried taking the chewable vitamins, but they taste so bad they make me gag. I haven't read or heard anything about the gummy ones, and they're so much easier for me to take. I can get them in multi-Vitamin, Calcium, etc.

Thanks!

I was told no on the gummy vitamins. I take Centrum kids 2x a day, not real bad.

The reason behind no gummies is that they move through the system to fast for any Vitamin to be absorbed. I cant stand the chewables either. I struggle with Vitamins daily and im almost three months out.

I take the gummies, no issues also take the chewable calciums. My Vitamin levels are just fine. most of the absorption takes place in the intestines not in the stomach.

I agree! They all have such different direction! And I don't have my first post-op dr appt for another 2 weeks, so I can't ask until then. My NUT isn't much help, she told me to ask the dr.

The gummies are going down fine so I'm going to continue taking them until my appt. Hopefully that'll be ok!

So, according to my surgeon gummy vitamins are fine with him as long as I chew them well. Since what you consume is absorbed in your intestines, they have plenty of time to break down. I've been eating them for about a week and all is well. For those of you who are allowed to have gummies I recommend them!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
