Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 5/29 and have been feeling great. No nausea, vommitting or pain(just gas). I've been getting my 64oz of fluids and 70-80g of Protein. A little weak but that's expected with the large decrease in calories. But still no BM, hmm should I have went yet?? Btw I'm 24 looking forward to hearing from you guys out there.

Hey! I had my surgery on may 29th as well! I am 26 and had my first BM yesterday. Felt so accomplished! Lol I, however, am still not able to get the 64oz in per day, what are u drinking that's helping u?!

Mmm also only list 2 lbs since surgery... Somewhat discouraging. I feel like my face and whole body is swollen... Any body relates to this or has any advice?? I've been really good with walking.

I've been drinking Isopure zero carb drink. 20 oz of fluids and also a packing 40g of Protein and I also drink Water, and water with crystal light. The isopure actually isn't bad, it almost tastes like Gatorade but a chalky after taste

I think it was 4 or 5 days post-op before I went. Now I think it was nothing unusual. My system is used to processing several pounds of food a day and suddenly I went 4 days eating virtually nothing. I think there's lots of unused space in my intestines, where food can hide. 5 months out, it's pretty normal for me to go 3 days without going to the bathroom.

My doc said btwn 3-5 days is normal...I was day 4. I have heard that *most* people are no longer everyday BMers post-op. so far I haven't needed any OTC aids, but I know many people do

I am 15 days post op. I can either get in 40 oz of liquid or 40 grams of Protein a day, not both. I can barely get in 300 calories. I didn't make a poop for 15 days, 3 of them pre op.

I think you are doing great.

Don't stress. You are going to use up everything you take in so your BM will be less and possible loose or constipated. I can go days without one and then my body likes to purge itself over the next few days. That's when my weight drop starts again LOL

I got most of my calories from the Protein Shakes in my liquid stage. But I didn't have a clear liquid stage, just liquids.< /p>

I went 12 days with no BM and had to finally take a laxative. Now that I am 4 weeks post op and eating real food I have been going fairly regularly.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
