Somewhat concerned/frustrated

Recommended Posts

I apologize first of all cause I'm sure there has been other post about this. I was sleeved on May 22 and got the go ahead to introduced very soft foods such as cottage cheese. I bought the breakstone Live Active. It's exactly 4 ounces. I eat it with no problem. I don't feel full after I eat. But I'm satisfied after eating it but I guess that this early in having the procedure I'm hoping to experience a sense of fullness.

The sense of fullness after surgery is totally different to pre-surgery and even now at 7 months out I have trouble judging. Eat as per your surgeons and dietitians recommendations. If you eat too much you will know!

As you heal, you will begin to understand what the restriction feels like. The more denser the foods, the more you will feel it. Early on, there's little restriction at all. You will also begin to understand what "slider" foods are. These are foods that you can eat without feeling much restriction at all. These are typically foods that have high sugar or fat content. As AussieLady points out, stick to the plan, you'll know when you cross the line.

Hi Aussie Lady. Yeah, that's what I do. I just stick to the Drs order. I don't have any desire to test my limits. I'm committed and determined to make it work.

I guess being just sleeved and reading about others feelings of fullness. I guess I need to go thru the motions.

You probably won't get that full feeling until you actually hit soft foods. However, the signs are VERY different after surgery. Right after surgery, mine mimicked gas pain in my upper left shoulder area. As I progressed, I went through stages where I would sneeze, hiccup, and finally, burp when I was full. I've learned that any type of burp is my STOP sign, even if it's just a tiny little bubble. Even if I'm chewing a bite of food, I dare not swallow it because that burp means my sleeve is DONE accepting food. I try now to eat until I'm not hungry rather than until I burp to avoid problems. You'll learn your signal(s) as you move through the stages. Good luck! :)

I've been told not to eat to full, only to satisfied. Full hurts.

This is what my dr says, too. Was sleeved May 8 and am on soft foods now...like the OP I was "worried" when I didn't feel restriction on ricotta and the like, but I have definitely felt it with more solid foods. Is so hard for us to trust this process, but it does work like they say it does :-). The other thing my surgeon says is to serve up portion size you will eat (so 1/4 to 1/2 cup at this stage) and eat that...and not to serve yourself your "usual" portion size and then plan to stop eating

Yes, I don't eat full. I eat my suggested amount or less. Funny cause I know this buy like I need to read from actual people who have lived thru it already vs a class. I truly appreciate everyone's input. Valuable input. ;)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
