Been approved for sleeve surgery

Recommended Posts

Oh I'm sure I will get hungry but my meal portions should be way less and I'm sure that alone should help me in my weight loss' date=' I weighed as much as 575 lbs went to Metabolic weight loss.... lost weight to 255 lbs drinking their supplements along with a meal and eating five times a day , I was hungry all the time and I'd would cheat a lot eating like 15 oz of cheddar at one sitting but I'd still loose weight but just to make this story short as soon as I thought I could buy my own Protein drink and do the meal plan, I started to gain weight back on, now I'm up to 430 lbs, I'm 6'5 been told i carry this weight well but who are they kidding.. It's hard lugging around this weight, June 19 is when I get sleeved so all I want is a smaller stomach and if need to be Dr. Cooper said we could do and 2nd surgery if need to be but he feels very confident that the sleeve is all I need. I will wait and see. I enjoy hearing others feed back on this, it helps prepare my mind, and once I set my mind there nothing stopping me I just need that tool cause on food I need help, I like to cook and love to eat.[/quote']

Exactly! It still blows my mind the amount of food it takes to fill me up :)

So does it take much to fill you up now?

It takes a lot more than I thought it would...but it comparison to what it used to take before, the amount is tiny.

I can stomach WAY more than the 8 oz they promised before surgery. But I make sure to measure my food so it's not too much. Now my mother on the other hand had the switch, and makes what I eat look massive.

I just can't imagine what you went through. Do you feel it was still worth getting the sleeve? And are you losing weight? And how far are you from your goal weight?

I'm losing weight and am almost halfway to goalishness. I never really set a firm number. I'd like to be somewhere weight appropriate for my height and age, but mostly whatever looks and feels comfortable to me. I'd love to have the perfect BMI and weigh 130 but it still seems far fetched to me. If I was dead set on a number I probably would have opted for roux-en-y.

Do I think it was worth it? Eehhhh sometimes haha. It gets better to be comfortable with decision over time. Right now I hate it evade my tonsils are massive and I can't take ibuprofen to help. I'm happy with the weightloss, I'm happy I've had only a few instances of low blood sugar since my surgery, and for the most part I'm happy with my Portion Control.

I miss ibuprofen, I don't like feeling full so I don't eat as much as I should in one meal but rather spread it out through the day which is probably a large contributing factor to my slow losing, and I'm a bit of a hypochondriac now according to my mom. I like to think of it as VERY aware of my body now :) I did all the classes and appointments and things and even researched 6 months before my 6 month waiting period and everyday up until surgery. I don't recommend this to anyone that doesn't feel like they're somewhat a sleeve expert because they've read so much. I knew about the complications and wish I knew what to expect in more black an white terms. There are lots of different treatments talked about on here but not Coop's leak method. I think I was his first sleeve leak actually. He wasn't even sure what to do initially. He knows now!

For the most part I'm fine with my decision. I'm not one of the people on here that would do it again in a heartbeat! But I'd consider it again for sure.

I'll be going to support group Monday, will you be there?

Yes I will be there, I start my liquid diet that day (ugh) god knows how I'm going to get by . I'd thought about talking to the sherif to lock me up in Scott Co. Jail till Wednesday; afraid they would just keep me or id assault some child molester or slap some raper then but others made it. I had my pace yesterday so I'm all set to sleeve just got to sign some papers at Dr coopers office the 18

Wednesday seems so far away.. Well support group meeting @7pm , my luck everyone will be eating a bean dish or something from a new recipe and I'll just drown my hunger with Water, but I can do this... When I was on Clear liquids I found out that I could go to my local Panera bread, order a cup/bowl of their low-fat chicken noodle Soup and ask them to give me just the broth. They were always very nice and very careful to give me just the broth. You can also get broth-based vegetable or French onion Soup, take it home and strain out the big pieces.

The thing about the broth is both the Fluid and the salt. I got so tired of the sweet Protein shakes all the time. The body needs salt -- I think you will find the broths will give you a real pickmeup. Good luck and hang in there!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
