Not feeling full or even hungry

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if anyone else has this. Surgery was on 27th may and I don't get a full feeling... But I don't get a hungry feeling either... I drink regularly because I know I need to and I only drink 3-4 oz at a time but yeah....

I was sleeved on May 15, I feel the same way. Someone mentioned on here to me that it was because the liquid mkves through the stomach faster. today was my first day on semi soft foods and I still felt the same way.

It is like that during healing. I didn't get the full signal until about 6 or 7 weeks post op. I still don't really get a hungry feeling almost 4 months out, but I believe that I'll likely change too.

That is normal when you are in the liquid stage. I am 5 months out and believe me you will feel full soon enough. Once you start eating a more normal diet, you will feel the effects of everything. You honestly do not get a hunger feeling until about the 3 to 4 th month.

It's totally normal. It took me a couple weeks to get the full feeling. Like someone else mentioned, once you are on a more normal diet, you'll feel it.

I am three days post-op and I feel like I am starving! I think I had read somewhere that the gas (which is pretty awful) can mimic the hunger pangs. I am trying very hard to follow post-op directives. Any advice? I have no problem drinking the 6 oz Protein shakes. I have had 2 today. Off-times I have Water. I had broth for dinner.

Eat Jello, it has substance and will make u feel full. Also try ice pops. Increase your Water intake and for the gas pain keep moving around. Remember your body is also coming off high amounts of sugar and carbohydrates. Try those two substances it will help alot. Try beef broth that will cause a filling sensation because it has a higher fat substance in it. Also keep your mind occupied because it can be boredom making you hungry too. If u can take Vitamins take them because they will really help your body. I hope this helps. If u need anything else let me know.

Thanks for the Jello suggestion. I'll try a little Fage yogurt today.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
