It is impossible for me to get my protien in if I only eat 3 times a day and a shake is considered a meal! Help! 10 days out!

Are you sure a shake is considered a meal? My dietician says we are allowed 3 meals a day, no Snacks, but Protein Shakes count as fluids, not meals or snacks. But I know each dr office has their own way of doing things.

Yes. I asked. I even put protien powder in my Soups and puddings. Today I didn't have a shake I put unflavored in my crystal light. I just hate counting them as a meal. I need more. I am only getting 300 or less calories per day!

I don't know what your Protein guidelines are, but my NUT says 60-70 is a good number to shoot for. This is what I do for a Breakfast shake: 1 scoop Designer whey Double chocolate Protein Powder, 1 cup almond milk, 1/2 banana & 2tbsp of PB2...that starts my day with a total of 25g of protein. 2 pieces of l-f string cheese is another 16g of protein. A greek yogurt 18g of protein. Just look for high quality foods with a good amount of protein. Just those 3 small portions of food add up to 59g of protein. It takes awhile to find what works for you, but it is definitely doable.

I am only 10 days out so I can't have the cheese. Thanks for the ideas. I guess until my diet progresses I will be drinking Isopure.< /p>

I'm exactly the same heatwhip. I can only get in about 300 - 350 calories a day. For some reason I just cannot tolerate Soups. So I'm left with yogurt, light custard, milk, orange juice. I'm on day 7 and I'm waiting for a delivery of Protein drinks. At moment all are highest Protein I can get without the shakes so only on about 25gms protein a day and worried bout my hair so need these drinks to come in. My sister suggested today plain Protein Powder to mix in with my yogurts or custard etc. so will try get out tomorrow to find some. Even with the shakes it says in my guide is on 17gms of protein in which have half for lunch, half for tea etc. so kinda impossible to meet without extra protein powder, with the amount I can get in.

Is 300 - 350 calories like the norm?

Also in the all food part in a couple of months, does anyone know how many calories a day we should be staying under?

I'm almost 3 months out, but I remember vividly my first weeks of post op. This may not help you, except to let you know-you are not alone. I had a hard time with getting in Protein, Water, and or meals. I was encouraged to attempt any allowable full liquid every 2 hours. My Protein Drinks were considered fluids not a meal. I physically could not take in but sips. And I was not getting in but 300-350 calories either. I tolerated liquid yogurt w unflavored (Unjury) protein, I could tolerate nectar protein and would add some unflavored protein to that. My Nut "Full liquid die"t for the second week was 3 meals ( 2-4 ounces, I could not get more than 1.5 ounces in) Protein requirement at 2 week-at minimum 40 grams. Minimum 48 ounces liquids, Starting w thin liquids and advancing. Doing great now-and I am telling you--IT gets better! Hang in there-stay hydrated and keep trying things until you find some food you like.

This is another example of how different the surgeons are. When I was on full liquids for the 1st 2 weeks post op, Protein Shakes were not considered meals but were to be drank between meals so as to get the required Protein in, also they helped with hydration to a small point. My surgeon didn't want me worrying about the numbers of calories or Proteins for the first week but instead just make sure I got another Fluid in and by drinking the protein shakes I would be ok until I got further on in the diet.

I am12 days out and having problems with protien and Water. I can have as many shakes as I want. I only drink the liquid stuff that is pre made. I have been on so many shake diets in my life and I cannot stand the thought of powdered shakes. I guess I could mix up a banana and some Peanut Butter with my EAS chocolate. I hate water. Always have. Just gonna have to make myself. BTW. Banana Muscle Milk is great.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
