Hi Y'all!

I'm Amy from Texas, I'm not yet banded but I have my first visit with a bariatric specialist on Januray 4th, 2007. So I have been out scouting around for a support system that looked fun and helpful... this place beats the rest I've seen. I will be going to Dr Richard Collier in Conroe.

Al little about me... I am 35, a recently remarried mother of two pugnacious preteen kids (and I say that with love! hehehe no - really they are great, but don't tell them!:P ). I love creating art and craft projects, singing, dancing, raising ponies, cooking and baking. I am 5'1" and I am starting at about 238 lbs. I figure my goal is somewhere in the 125-130 lb. neighborhood maybe, as that is around where I was in college before all this weight started showing up. I was no skinny-minnie, but that size worked for me. But really my ACTUAL goal is simply to be able to ride my ponies again without being cited for pony abuse!:nervous

I am really looking forward to having this procedure done so I can get on with my plans. I think I do have realistic goals for weightloss speed and the amount of effort it will actually take to use this tool. I know, Rome wasn't built in a day and neither was my butt! What I am hoping is that, with this tool, I will be able to remove food as an object of obsession and make it what it is supposed to be - a necessity. Trust me I DO know what I'm SUPPOSED to eat (wink), my problem has just been the "wanna" behind it and my T-Rex-like apetite! Hopefully, having physical restrictions put on my intake ability, I can refocus my head on what I need to eat and making the most of nutrition in that smaller stomach space!

I look forward to meeting a lot of you on here, so you can help me through my wobbly times and cheer me when I am being a good girl!

:clap2:

Toodles!

Amy

Hi Amy, congrats on your lapband. Its a wonderful tool. You have the right attitude. I hear you about riding the ponies. I use to have a horse and I felt sorry for him everytime my 300 lb body was on top of him. That is a great goal. Good luck.

Hi Amy, I'm Carole and I'm also new to this board. I've been lurking forever it seems like. My first appointment is also on the 4th of January with Dr. Marsden. I'm a fellow Texan as well. I live in Fort worth and spend a lot of time in Austin. I have a sis who lives there. I have two boys (7 & 9). I'm a self pay and hope to get my surgery done as soon as possible. I'm 5'5" and weigh 218. I'd love to be back at 140 and know that with this surgery and a lot of work it will happen. We're in the process of getting a pool put in and if that isn't incentive I don't know what is!!

Good luck to you and everybody else!

Carole

Hi Amy,

Nice to meet you. My first visit is Jan. 17 with the Weight Management Center here in Mass. I have always been "meaty" also...lol and just want to look good in my clothes and actually be able to shop for some cute things. I can't wait. I have about 130 lbs to lose, but would actually be happy to be back in a size 12/14....I would be thrilled actually.

Yes, I do agree with this being a tool..and it's going to take work, but I figure the technology is out there and I'm going for it..so there!.....:)

Best of luck to you.

BTW..what a pretty picture...you are already georgous..you are going to look fantastic!

Hi Amy and welcome to the most wonderful support group in the world. I'm a fellow horse person and was banded 2 days ago. It has been so embarassing as my weight continued to climb and I couldn't climb on my horse without someone holding the saddle in place on the opposite side. But those days will soon be over. Keep us all posted and good luck!

Amy.........Congratulations on taking steps to being banded. I like alot of those that have already posted am not banded yet. It will happen one day! Just think of the exercise you can get riding and also swimming in your new pool. If you ever have any questions this is the place to ask. I also am always open for questions. I work on a bariatric unit and have attended special training for my banding patients.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
