So depressed and weak today

Recommended Posts

It has been a full week since surgery. I should be happy but I am feeling bad today. I know it's mostly mental. I'm feeling like nothing in my body works the way it used to. I feel weak from not being able to get enough down. I feel depressed. Does anybody else feel this way? I feel a little crazy today.

I too felt that way during my first week. Then I got to where the taste of Water made me want to throw up! Hang it there, it gets better. I am now 2 months post op and I feel great. Still little things to get used to, but not like that first couple of weeks.

I am 1 yr+ post-op and nicely settled into the "new me" lifestyle. You will feel better in the coming weeks. Don't forget, you had MAJOR surgery. It takes time to heal and recover!

After that, for the next several months, you're learning how to eat, digest, etc. just like when you were a baby. But you don't remember that time so you can't recall how challenging it was back then!

As mentioned, soon it will be a distant memory and you will find your "new normal" and be enjoying your slim, healthy, happy new self. Just be patient. The time will pass quickly after the first weeks of struggle. I promise!

Hi LuvYou2Forever, hope you're feeling better. I was VSGed on July 8th and im still riding that emotional roller coaster. I believe it is completely common and normal to feel crummy especially in the beginning. I get angry and frustrated easily and I know its because my mind wants to eat, even if my stomach doesn't or can't. Hang in there.

Just wanted to check in with everyone. I am feeling better than ever. I am down 52 lbs and being very active. I am eating small portions and cleaner than ever. This surgery was definitely a life saver. Anyone that is struggling, hang in there. Remember that this too shall pass. Best wishes to you all. :)

So glad I read this. I was sleeved July 29th so 2nd day and I feel like I made the worst decision in the world. Felt pretty good in the hospital on ice chips and such but once I moved to Protein and such I started feeling like crap!! I can barely drink anything. All of my medicine tastes like crap and I just wish I could rewind and not do this.. I hope after the next few days I change my mind and love that I did this.... I just like reading that this feels pretty normal the first few days. My hubby goes back to work Monday and that will be a week after my surgery. Hoping by then my intake is better along with my attitude and everything else....

Thanks for the update. I'm just now about where you were when you first posted. It's a little cliche, but I feel like I'm on an emotional roller coaster. So glad to hear it gets better!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
