according to your profile you had 1st letter of approval for the surgery? sorry, but this statement of yours seems a bit hypocritical being that your "noncaring" insurance company took care of you on your 1st attempt?

I think it's highly likely that you don't understand what the word hypocritical means, because there is nothing even remotely hypocritical about what I said.

The fact that my employer negotiated a policy for their employees that provides WLS approval without requiring them to jump through hoops in no way detracts from the fact that the insurance companies exist solely to make a profit and care more about that than the people they cover.

I for one didn't "eat myself fat" I have poly cystic ovarian syndrome which ballooned me to a 50+bmi.. My obgyn informed me that I could live off salads and still gain wait because my body makes and retains a TON of insulin but my pcos isn't considered a co morbidity. I'm 25 5'7" 345lbs I have herniated disks in my back and joint pain in my knees and feet. I could do the 6 months of dieting' date=' but I'm not able to excersize... So my bcbs of MI should make me wait another 6 months and watch my weight climb higher or I die of a heart attack in the mean time? Some times whining about ur situation isn't the most mature thing to do. Instead stay positive the time will pass by more quickly. You get ur surgery some don't. 6 months is just your time to prepare for the new life waiting for you.[/quote']

Just wondering with having a disorder that causes you to gain weight and not food... How does the surgery then help? If you could eat very little like all salad and gain... Won't you gain with the sleeve still?

I had a bmi of 49 but no comorbities. I went for my required 3 months of nutritional counseling and weigh ins that turned into 6 months and then 9 months. I finally had to hire a healthcare advocate and a threat to sue after being denied twice before the denial was reversed. The time I spent fighting was 18 months and I worked for a major insurance/financial company. Hang in there it will be worth the wait once you are sleeved.

I have PCOS and it is possible to lose weight but still very difficult. The sleeve is a tool that can help. I find that with the right food choices and exercise combination, someone with PCOS can lose weight. I have lost 45 pounds on my own but I am constantly hungry all the time with what little I allow myself to eat. I want the added benefit of no hunger from the sleeve to help me. I think eventually the hunger may come back but by then I will hopefully be able to maintain. PCOS is a struggle and I know that I will battle with food and my weight for the rest of my life, so I would like the sleeve to help me in my battle :)

I honestly can't fully explain it to you. I do know that I process calories a lot more then normal people. That's why I " could eat salads and still gain" but I don't eat salads. I eat normal food because i gave up trying when there were no results anyways. So I gain at a more rapid pace then the average person should. I don't over eat or go crazy eating all un healthy food. But when I have the sleeve food won't sit in my system as long so I won't process the calories like I do now. The only true fire way to lose weight with PCOS is to starve and never eat a carb (good carb or bad) ever again. With the sleeve I won't "starve" it will be normal to only eat a tiny amount. I intend to steer clear of most carbs but I'm not going to completely cut them out. And with the sleeve I can have a bite if apple without wanting to eat a whole apple and not have to worry about consuming all the carbs. Or a bite of bread.. I don't know. It's my body so I understand but it's hard to explain.

Exactly. We don't abuse food or over eat but we gain at an accelerated rate if we dare eat a "normal portion" or worse something with carbs. I depleted my PCOS when I was 17 (it returned 5 years ago with a vengeance) and I will kick it too the curb again! This time for good!!

my point exactly. your saying they are out for themselves, but they took care of you - hence hypocritical statement. would you rather they didnt take care of you to back your arguement? business is business. its not about you its about them everywhere you look. ford dont sell cars because they care how you get to work everyday. nike dont sell shoes because the welfare of your feet are their top priority. business solely exists to make money.

Popcorn anyone??

Lmao!

Really I'm sad that this thread has hurt people so much! I really don't think the person that started it intended to hurt, but was more trying to vent her frustrations. Big, little-big, super-big, mega-big... no matter what your size I think we can all agree this is an emotionally frustrating ordeal. And don't even get me started on insurance companies, I'm a nurse and they are an enigma to me! ~Madeline

This thread is a prime example of why people shouldn't say or put things in writing when they're mad.....

Just take a deep cleansing breath, analyze the situation, think logical and you'll most likely make sense....

If you have common sense to begin with!

I'm sure the OP didn't mean to hurt anyone but for some people, when they feel hurt, they in turn hurt others subconsciously.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
