LOL! Sitting in a Dr's waiting room embarrassing my bf laughing out loud at this! My BMI is 67. I have "the perfect cocktail for weight gain so I had better get used to life over 300 lbs" as quoted by my gyno. I said ix-nay with a HELL NO!!! I begain in January and it is now June and I still don't have a date (they didn't see Snickers in the x-rays). I am expectin July but only because I developed severe osteo-arthritis jumping through their hoops!

I have read this and your other posts... It seems that you are unhappy about your six month diet requirements... But saying that it is unfair and that fatter people than you should have to prove they can do six months and not people like you' date='

Is somewhat rude don't you think? After all you are on a vsg website there are plenty of "super fat" people here.[/quote']

As a Super Fat gal I agree.

In my world' date=' a reward is a satisfying return that is earned, given or granted based on positive behaviors, like positive reinforcement.....[/quote']

Amen!! Couldn't have said it better!

BCBS generally requires a 6-month supervised weight loss plan for everyone (including those with 50 BMI or above). I am not sure what you are calling a fast surgery date, but I think it's actually a good requirement. It gets you prepared for the surgery so you're not posting a month later on the "why I regret having VSG" thread....

I for one didn't "eat myself fat" I have poly cystic ovarian syndrome which ballooned me to a 50+bmi.. My obgyn informed me that I could live off salads and still gain wait because my body makes and retains a TON of insulin but my pcos isn't considered a co morbidity. I'm 25 5'7" 345lbs I have herniated disks in my back and joint pain in my knees and feet. I could do the 6 months of dieting' date=' but I'm not able to excersize... So my bcbs of MI should make me wait another 6 months and watch my weight climb higher or I die of a heart attack in the mean time? Some times whining about ur situation isn't the most mature thing to do. Instead stay positive the time will pass by more quickly. You get ur surgery some don't. 6 months is just your time to prepare for the new life waiting for you.[/quote']

I have bcbsMI. My bmi was 43 and I had no trouble getting approved at all. Have 2-3 comorbidities but had absolutely no trouble with them. That's really strange. Had my surgery 4/16.

Of course I had to go through the 6 month stuff but had zero trouble from BCBSMI.

My BMI was 46 and I have BCBS. I only had to do a three month diet plan. As stated above, it depends on the package your company chooses.

My bestie has a higher BMI than I and she has BCBS. Her insurance won't cover it at all.

Aren't we just little miss fancy pants?

But really it's about what kind of policy your employer decides on not the insurance company.

A prime example is all of us here that have BCBS

Some wait 3 months some six some like me have no waiting and some are not covered at all!

I think at the end of the day we are all lucky to have this opportunity whether you had to wait 6 months or go to Mexico to get it done :)

bsbcMI, the only way to get rewarded with a very fast surgery date is to eat yourself up to 50 and over bmi

and it doesn't matter what or how many co-morbidities you have, you can never get a quicker surgery date, the only thing that matters is exactly how fat you are

BCBS PA, BMI over 60, inequality????? i have to go through my 6 months of insurance appointed monitoring by my PCP. i dont gripe, i dont complain, im just doing it. my wife and i are considering it preparation time for the rest of our lives. to say the fattest of the fat get preferencial treatment is plain old stupid and in my opinion uneducated. if you dont like how your insurance company operates switch companies, wait another 12-18 months for that surgery date, then be happy and live your life. yes, we all ate ourselves to this point. some may have other conditions to help things along but the bottom line is you (no matter who you are) ate too much. thats the common denominator here, no ifs, ands, or buts. try and learn what you can about the new lifestyle you will be living over the next 6 months and consider yourself lucky that this is even an option for you.

count your blessings, dont air your complaints. especially on a site where we all are going through pretty much the same thing.

I find this thread somewhat insulting. I weigh 375 was 422. My BMI is 64 and I have been working towards getting this surgery for over 2 years. I didn't get a fast date because I am fatter than most or my BMI is way high. I had to go through the motions. You must do the same regardless of your Size/BMI. There are certain things required because they don't want Suzie 29 lbs. overweight to go put herself through a surgery when she could diet for 6 mos and lose it herself.

1. It's the policy, determined by the employer, that dictates what insurance companies can and cannot provide.

2. It IS weight loss surgery, so yes, "exactlly how fat you are" should play a role

3. Insurance companies are all about lowering costs of health care, and they know statistically what is likely to increase claims. High BMIs fall in that category, and hospitals can even bill a higher dollar amount for the care of people with a BMI over 40 in Michigan, regardless of the reason for the visit. A known history of obesity with a BMI over 50 is statistically likelly to increase their claims.

4. I interpret your statement to be condescending and rude toward people who are heavier than you because they "...ate themselves up to a BMI of 50". We all contributed to our obesity, so please don't throw stones from your glass house. I understand you don't want to wait, so I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt in that you probably didn't mean to offend anyone.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
