cold after having surgery

Recommended Posts

Are you talking about being cold in the recovery room? or cold in general?

If you are talking about be cold right after the surgery, that is normal coming out of the anethesea (sp)

If you talking about being cold after leaving the hospital or days later, the thing I can think of is weight loss. When I start losing weight (even 20lbs) my body starts to change temperature wise. I get colder easier too, then my body adjust then I'm fine, then I lose more, and I'm back to being cold.

I'm not banded yet, so I'm not an expert about the symptoms about being banded, so if there are some out there that have had the coldness, what do you think?

i have (had) both problems.

for a few days maybe even a week after surgery i was COLD COLD COLD!!! shivering cold. that was because of the anesthesia.

now i am finding myself more chilled during the winter because i have less 'insulation' now ... but that's fine with me ... i can now fit into more sweaters/coats. :)

I thought that my thyroid was screwed up after surgery because I was cold ALL the time. I think I'm back to normal now. I never even thought about the anesthesia. I don't recall that happening any other time I have had anesthesia. Weird.

I'm always cold coming out of an anaesthetic.

But this winter in Australia, I noticed I was MUCH colder than usual - I've always been impervious to it. But I froze, I was always going and getting a jacket and we had a very mild winter in Melbourne. I think it was just my body adjusting to less insulation, its summer now but I notice also that sometimes I need to pop something with long sleeves on at night.

I Was Referring To Being Cold After The Surgery. A Friend That Had The Banding About A Year Ago Is Always Saying She Is Cold. So I Was Curious If She Is Not Doing Something Like Taking Some Vitamin Or Eating A Certain Types Of food To Get Over This Problem.

She should have her Iron level checked also. If your Iron is low, your body has a harder time of regulating your temperature.

I'm always freezing. This is the one thing I'm hoping gets better with weight loss, and not worse. Although, from everything I've read, it doesn't look good....

I too am always cold, I type this sitting in front of the fireplace and still cold. I think it is from not having the layer of fat for insulation. I noticed this after about 25 pounds of loss. I am going to buy a new coat tomorrow, my old one is too big and not warm enough anymore. I'm thinking parka. ~Mandy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
