Ty!

Let's see, my initial appointment was January 21st, did all my stuff by April, received approval mid-April, and had my surgery scheduled May 21st. So essentially, it took me 4 months.

Hospital stay was good, I was on the 4th floor, had a private room with my own shower. :) I was only there for 2 nights, he left it up to me if I wanted to stay a third night. But I wanted to go home.

The only thing that I didn't seem ready for, was the level of pain and discomfort I was in when I first woke up. I don't know why I thought any different, but the first day and night really sucked. I was given dilaudid (morphine) drip for the pain but that began to my new nauseous and dry heave....which sucked. In the morning they gave me something milder for the pain and I was fine. The next day I felt way better, the day after that better, and everyday since I am getting closer to feeling 100%. Also, I've lost 26 pounds since my pre-op diet, and I've moved on to stage 3 of the diet. So just remember everyday gets better! And good luck!!

Babyhellfire- OMG thanks for the info!!! I'm so happy to find someone who has just recently seen him. As far as the stay I will prob take the extra day bc I have 2 lil ones (that love to jump on mommy like a bouncy house)...lol =D

Nurse Chris told me I should expect a call from I think Kathy who will basically go thru my chart to check if evrything is perfect, then call me to tell me when she submitting the chart. Or does she call after the approval?

I know what you mean I was tempted to stay the extra night cuz I have two kids myself. The gas is painful, and the doc doesn't want you to use any gas x or anything, they want it to come out naturally. So walking is the best thing to do.

She called me to tell me I was approved but that can take up to two weeks. I got mine pretty quickly though.

Also you probably won't be able to eat all the Protein Jello cups they give you, if I were you I would save them for when you come home in the first phase of your diet.

Wow, you're right around the corner...congrats! :)

Once I hit the three week post-op mark, I was back to feeling like myself. My energy returned and I no longer felt any pain. As of today I feel great. Still getting used to my sleeve though. I'm eating regular foods now and am learning that I need to slow down and STOP when I start feeling full or else I get a tummy ache. It takes some getting used to.

Well, good luck. Let me know how everything goes. Do you use my fitness pal? If so, my s/n is thebabycakes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
