Does the pre op diet get any easier?

Recommended Posts

I'm only on day two of my three week pre op diet and I gotta say its been a challenge. My diet is 5 Protein Shakes a day, 800 cal max. I'm super hungry and have a headache. I am drinking lots of Water. Will it get easier after a few days? I don't know how I can hang for 19 more!

That sounds very similar to mine. I start in 13 days. I read that the first three days are the hardest. Getting all the bad stuff out of your system. So, hopefully, you will feel better in a couple of days.

It does get easier and your body levels out and you aren't hungry. I actually found food lost it's spell on me after about the 4th or 5th day. I didn't feel hungry and I felt energized and proud of myself for sticking to the plan. Hang in there. It will get easier and keep telling yourself that this is only for a short time.

Hang in there. It will get better. I promise. The first 3-4 days are the hardest. In fact, day 3 is usually the hardest. Then it gets better. Just hang in and stay away from the kitchen.

It's rough now but it will be worth it. I'm 12 weeks post op and and would do it again in a minute!

For me, it got better after the 4th day. The headaches were gone and so was the hunger for the most part. I'd occasionally get a hunger pang but it wasn't so bad.

I don't prefer sweets and having 5 shakes a day got old quicker than I thought it would. My surgeon said it was okay to have chicken broth - I'd mix it with a scoop of powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored and that helped me a few times.

Thank you! That gives me a lot of hope.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
