FOR ALL OF YOU VSG PATIENTS AT GOAL...

Recommended Posts

For all of your VSG patient at goal; how hard was it to lose the last 25 pounds?! I need help! I'm 25 from my goal of 150 and the weight won't budge. Am I done??? I know I'm not exercising as I should but nothing seems to work. Any advice?

Exercise, weigh, measure and track. It's how I got to goal and how I stay at goal. The last 25 are the hardest. The closer I got to goal, the slower it went. I stuck with lowfat foods and really limited treats and caloric drinks.

I am in the same boat Lisa - I am 35 lbs. away and I have been really focusing on exercise since February. Mainly cardio stuff - I have decided to meet with a trainer to get a conditioning program set up. I am still eating the way I have since last September, its just slow as molasses right now. I keep thinking of the stats my surgeon mentions - 50% of the excess weight of in the first 6 months, the next 25% at the one year mark - and the last 25% to goal during the second year. I am close at 70%, we had surgery the same day :)

I'm onto the last 15lbs - 7 months out. Weight loss has definately slowed down now (1lb a week). For me tracking on my fitness planner and keeping up with the exercise as well as strength training to build muscle are key. But I'll let you know when I get to goal!

I am stuck 15 lbs from goal. I have lost 110 since 8-1-12. For me I get scared sometimes and want to stop the weight loss, like when I was 205, For some unknown reason I was scared to go below 200. Of course I wanted it but I was in conflict. Then I got to 185 & again got scared to hit goal. I am over the fear totally now but now the scale does not move. I exercise a lot. I need to record food.< /p>

Anyone else having these mental troubles when they see certain numbers on the scale. Oh & even though the scale is not moving My pants are getting much baggier. Hip hip hooray

I think I will always have the freak outs with the scale - I have lots of practice over the years :) I need to remember that there is no finish line, and to just continue to work on all of the new, healthy habits my family has adopted - and nip those bad ones in the bud as they arise (hello devil hotdog Buns from Memorial day cookout). We will get there eventually - look at how far we have all come!

At 20 months post op, I still have about 4 lbs to lose until I get to my personal goal. What I have to do is go back to basics for about 3 days and then I might drop a lb. I don't exercise, so my next step is to start exercising....... This is such a challenge for me.... :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
