Hi everyone! My name is Shellie, I was banded on 11-29-06. Dr. LePort was my surgeon in Fountain Valley Ca. I have lost 20 pounds already, but feel like I am going to gain it back since starting to eat solids again. I do not feel any restriction, is this normal? I look forward to visiting this site often!:)

I was banded on 11/14 and haven't gone for my first fill yet. I am pretty hungry alot of the time. I feel little restriction but I control myself. I've heard that sometimes it takes 2-3 fills before you feel good restriction. Good luck. You came to the right place for support. This site is great.

Hi shellie

welcome to LBT! in actual fact I think it is easier to loose more weight once you are on solids...you get the consistency effect and the restriction is a lot more pronounced. sure, it may take a few fills before you reach your sweet spot but I wouldn't be worried about putting on more weight...sounds like you are doing just fine!

Welcome to LBT.. I'm new here also, but I haven't been banded yet.. this seems like a great forum!!!!

Lavette: maybe the sugar in the OJ upset your stomach.... or the acid in the Tomato.< /p>

Yes, it is totally normal to not have restriction because you haven't had a fill yet. It is also normal to gain weight before your first fill so don't be too hard on yourself. Good luck.

Lavette, have you had a fill? If so, maybe that's what's doing it. Maybe it's the soda. My dr said no soda forever...or any other carbonated beverages. The carbonation fizzles in your stomach causing it to expand when you drink. Your dr doesn't care? Can you find someone else?

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
