KawiRoks 1 Posted May 29, 2013 Hello, I'm KawiRoks at 270lbs. First, let me tell you about KawiRoks. As an avid motorcyclist the kawi = kawasaki. It's what I ride. Roc = riders of kawasaki. Is a riding organization that I am a part of. My nick is Skip, I just turned 59 making a lot of you go feel very young, right? At 59 I find myself a mess both physically and emotionally. I was a truck driver untill diabetes, and my sight (not related to my diabetes) got the upper hand. I will be seeing my Dr. In June and will be talking about this sleeve surgery. I have already done my home work for what's ahead, both in pre and post surgery and have been reading a lot of your pre and post comments, also watching the surgery it self. In my heart I have already made the commitment-knowing what I need to get, and prepare. I need to do this for me , my wife, and son. So this journey, for me has begun. I want to be free all of 7meds -that also includes meds for my life long bought with depression... one can only hope. I do look forward to your feed back. I know I seem ahead of myself, but that's how commitment works. .
Snufflegus 80 Posted May 29, 2013 Hi Skip! Welcome to one of the best decisions I feel one can make for themselves! I am exactly one week post-op so I'm new to being on the losers bench, but my journey thus far has been pretty great! I can tell you this, this board is a great sounding board and many times you will get both sides of any question answered!
ppasjm 37 Posted May 29, 2013 Hi, Skip, My husband is a truck drive and just a few years younger than you. He had the sleeve last year and has lost 140lbs. Started out at 360 lbs. One of the big reasons he did it, was so he could keep his job. I didn't support him in the first few months, but I, eventually, came around. It is the best thing he has ever done for his health. He is on no meds anymore, not even his warfarin that he was taking for a blood clot that he had had in his heart a few years ago. The docs told him he would be on it for the rest of his life! Now he just takes a baby aspirin and his Vitamin supplements. Those won't kill him if he does miss a dose! I am hoping to get the surgery in the near future, too. Just waiting to get the money together. Hope your journey goes smoothly. Good luck!
rosehips 121 Posted May 30, 2013 Hi Skip, I hear your desperation & I can clearly remember feeling desperate, w/ no choices left yet scared to do the WLS. What if it does not work, what if I gain it back, what if I wreck a perfectly good body part...... Like I said I was at my wits end, I had tried & tried over the years to diet, I'd lose some weight, gain it back & more. I am now 9 months postop & 110 lbs less. I am light on my feet, I go up stairs and am not out of breath. I put my tennis shoes on w/out dreading it. I do not worry about fitting in a chair or walking in a room. I go to support groups, work on my mental addiction, talk honestly with others. I do Water aerobics 4 times a week, lift some weights, walk my dog. Summer has arrived, I am now on my bike. The exercise caused me to have consistent weight loss of 10 lbs every month, more in the beginning. The surgery made it possible for me to not give up, I ABSOLUTLY could not eat more than the 1/4 c, them up to a 1/2 cup and I stayed at a 1/2c per meal for a long time and overall I was satisfied. Now I can eat 1c & a little more. I am much much happier but I still have the same personality, I can get depressed for no good reason, I overdo it & become exhausted (but I had a lot of fun before I got exhausted). I do real well w/ my liquid & Protein most of the time. Vitamins too. This is my story of commitment so far with this surgery, without this my story would be my old story, I tried, I got too hungry, I ate, I gave up. My doctor told me I was not a loser, he says we just get too hungry & it takes too long without this surgery. God Speed to YOU, your doctor & your wife. Your life is going to change, follow ALL the rules!!!!!
