SLF1027 136 Posted May 29, 2013 Just verified my out-of-pocket for the procedure will be ~$8200! This does not include any co-pays for pre-op visits and procedures. The good news is that I do not have to go through a dieting period like some of you have mentioned. I know some of you aren't covered at all, so I'm not completely ungrateful! But I was hoping I would be able to get this accomplished this summer. Now it looks like I'll have to wait a few months to be able to save up. I'm just so ready to start my new life! I want it to happen already!!
HatheryOnHerWay 603 Posted May 29, 2013 Haha, I saw your Subject line and I thought you had found a really great self-pay price and were excited! :)
SLF1027 136 Posted May 29, 2013 Oh Hathery! You're brilliant. I should look at it like that!!! The insurance I had prior to 2013 did not cover wls at all and so I really should be happy.
HatheryOnHerWay 603 Posted May 29, 2013 Any way you look at it, it's STILL a LOT of money. My self-pay was more than that, but so far worth every penny! Too bad insurance companies don't just realize if they covered WLS fully, they could prevent a lot of claims down the road.. 4 BlessedBeyondMeasure2012, nsquared, ladee24 and 1 other reacted to this
SerendipityHappens 1,594 Posted May 29, 2013 I also thought this was some awesome self-pay US price! I had to save up for mine too ($4,500 as a mexico sleever) I booked my procedure in November or December and didn't have it until March. That gave me four months to save and to get a jump start on losing weight. I was impatient and didn't want to wait to start my new life so just used all my time I was saving up to prepare myself for sleeved life.. AND I lost 45 pounds during this time! 2 BlessedBeyondMeasure2012 and nsquared reacted to this
marfar7 1,533 Posted May 29, 2013 I thought $5,000 was alot of $! Medicare usually pays for most of the revision for me, but I cancelled my Part B a couple yrs ago (I never once used it) and thats what covers my drs charges. The insurance coordinator estimated $5,000. My PA assurred me on the way out (in tears) that he would do whatever it took (even charge 50%) to make sure I got my revision. Now the insurance coordinator said that he never got that approved and it's still $5,000. Came up with $2500 but not the $5,000. That will be impossible. Almost impossible to come up with 50%. Good luck with ur surgery!
