manometry test and upper endoscopy (EGD)

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled next week for manometry and upper endoscopy. I am pretty nervous about the manometry since they don't put you out for it. I have a hiatal hernia, so I know any reflux is from that. Is the manometry absolutely necessary? I am self pay.

It all depends on the doctor. Almost everyone gets an EGD. I had a slight hiatal hernia that was diagnosed during the EGD. I didn't have any issues with reflux issues though.

Most drs (but not all) will use a topical med in your nose to help with any possible pain and then it should not be a huge issue. Hope this helps a little. I've seen many of these done in ER and no one had any huge problems. Just relax as much as you can and follow directions.

If it makes you feel any better.. You're lucky you're not getting an anorectal manometry! Now that never look like fun at all ;)

I had my EGD this morning and they didn't do anything like that for me.

EGD is a piece of cake. Manometry is different and can be uncomfortable if not prepared.
