My friend had the sleeve done yesterday. She is annoyed because she is very gassy and cannot keep liquids down... Is there something she can do... My date is June 11.. and its scaring me to see her be so uncomfortable

Hello, I snuck gas x strips in and it was my life saver. They are minty and they work!

She's early out what she is feeling is very normal,

She needs to be up and walking at least 10 minutes an hour to help with the gas. As far as the nausea has she asked the doctor for anything?

LOTS of advice on here for gas. WALKING is the best. Gas x strips they say are very helpful.

WALK WALK and walk some more. It's the only thing that will rid your body of the gas. Plus.. It gets you moving and recovery is quicker if you don't sit around. That's something you can remember when you're out of surgery. Don't put off getting up and walking as soon as you wake up. It's the deal breaker :D

I puked up everything I tried to drink for the first 2 days--unfortunately, it's normal :)

I, for one, and so glad I had the gas x strips! They, as well as walking frequently, were lifesavers :-D best wishes

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
