...considered or used the Essure procedure for birth control post-op? It's permanent birth control, but non-hormonal and doesn't involve surgery. It's an option I'm looking at for post-op peace of mind, since I have two kiddos already and I'd be content with having a permanent solution for birth control.

Hmm.....I've never heard about this. Definitely going to have a chat with the doc about it since pills are messing me up big time. Thanks for sharing!

It sounds like a really great option to consider; even though right now my focus is on the sleeve surgery, afterwards I will definitely want a better b.c. choice that doesn't involve the Pill or other hormones. I used the "find a doctor" option on their site and found several certified doctors in my area who could perform the Essure procedure for me at some point, assuming that my insurance is cooperative.

I'd love to hear from any ladies here who've had the procedure and might be willing to tell us about how it went!

I have the Essure implants. I got them when I turned 42 and was through having children. I have never wanted to take pills and risk the side effects. For me it was a very simple procedure. I had to take birth control pills for a month prior. I didn't like that part, but it was only for a month and it did make my monthly flow almost non-existant. The day of the procedure (implant) I went in to the exam room, got in the gown, they gave me something to relax me. Then, I woke up and it was done. Actually took less than 20 minutes. I went back a month later for an xray. The doctor fills the uterus with Fluid and checks to make sure the fallopian tubes were blocked with the scar tissue that forms around the titanium springs. All was good. Never had any pain or discomfort whatsoever!! And, for me, because it was in in-office procedure, only cost me a $30 office visit - insurance paid the rest.

I kind of like the idea of being relaxed enough to sleep through the procedure--I think being fully awake would make me very nervous! How was the confirmation test later?

I was planning to have this done after my son was born. I wish I would have done it. I'm sure I will be scheduling it again sometime soon!

The confirmation test was just sort of icky feeling, similar but not as bad as a yearly exam (pap, etc.). No pain at all and it only took a few minutes. Just had to lay on my back on exam table under xray machine. The doctor inserted a tube about the size of a straw, then filled my uterus with Fluid, looked at the results, then it was done.

I've been looking into this procedure and plan on having it done sometime after my sleeve surgery, which is hopefully going to be done in July :)

I had planned to get it, but for me it would have meant insertion in an O.R. Or wait until I lost more weight. Went with Mirena and love it!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
