Insurance just approved getting banded in Mid January

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am pleased to anounce that my insurance has approved my surgery. I will start my pre-op diet the first week of January and have the surgery approx. 2 weeks later. I can't wait. :girl_hug:

A little about myself:

Sex:Male

Age:33

Weight:430lbs

Height: 6'5

Location: Nashville, Tn

I have several questions and I hope some of you could take a few minutes to answer.

1. What is the average weight loss over the first 60 days?

2. I would like to lose 100lbs by September. Am i being reasonable?

3. Can you feel the port?

4. How long is recovery?

5. Do you really feel full on such small quantities of food?

6. How long until you can excercise?

I would appreciate any answers and opinions.

Thanks,

Joe

Hi ya joe welcome to LBT.

Congrats on your surgery date!

I have been banded for over twelve months now and have had a very slow progress so it really depends on the person (and your level of commitment) as to how much you can loose.

The first 60 days i didn't loose any weight...I wasn't filled until after that but my dr wasn't worried about it he said that the first we while is the time for healing post surgery.

You cant feel the port mostly...I mean you can feel it when you touch it with your hands but as to feeling it inside not so much...but sometimes when I lie on my side I think it might pinch a nerve or something cause I get slight pain occassionally and I just need to change my position.

Recovery for me post surgery only took 3-4 days so its very quick.

Yes when you get to your 'sweet spot' you do feel full but it can take months and multiple fills to get to that spot...time leading up to that you may only feel slight restriction but get hungry easily...it just depends on the person.

In answer to your last question I was exercising within the first 24 hours...just small amounts of walking but it did help with the gas pains.

Other than that, I love my lapband and for all the minor fustrations/inconveniences I wouldnt have it any other way.

keep us posted!

Hi Joe, you will probably lose some weight in your first 60 days. Men tend to lose faster. It depends on how you do with your post op diet. My recovery was easy. You can lose 100 lbs by September if you like. I've seen 100 lbs off in 6 months with some patients. You can expect to lose 30% of your weight in the first year if you stick to the bandster rules. So that would be 120 lbs approximately. Everyone is different. I'm a slow loser at 1 lb per week. But I over endulge in alcohol which is empty calories. After I had my surgery I lost the appetite for food. I didn't have restriction so I went into my doctor for a fill 6 week post op. Everyone is different. You may not need a fill for a few months, it all depends. Good luck to you. You will love your band. It will change your life. Wow 6'5". That is amazing.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
