So far, not loving my sleeve

Oh and it seems like I stall far more than I lose. This is just ridiculous.

Be encouraged today. I was loosing slow. Sometimes unbelievably slow to me. At time the scale doesn't change for a week. . But when that happens I notice that I am still loosing but inches. inches matter! ! Why I say that because some times after a stall I go down in clothes size. Thats when size does matter. Keep up the good work.

Each day will get better.

Thank you ballermom, I am trying not to get discouraged, I mean, even I wanted to now u can't quit, my stomach is already gone and I am stuck sipping liquids for life. But it is a little disheartening. I ran Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. Yesterday was my rest day and I lost the 1.4 lbs I had gained. Now I am afraid to run again. Eeeeek, not sure what to do.

Exercise, especially something strenuous like running can cause additional water/fluid weight to retain in your muscles. This is normal. Stop weighing yourself every day. You're going to drive yourself insane!

Continue eating/drinking "on plan". Get your Protein and Fluid requirements in every day. Over time things will even out and you cannot continue indefinitely in a big calorie deficit without losing body fat. That is your goal, after all. To lose fat, not just weight.

You have not been measuring body fat (have you?), so you don't know if the weight changes you are seeing are fat % changes. Fluid changes will move the scale up/down. Muscle density changes will also +/- the scale. Neither one is easily identifiable from one day to the next without a body composition meter or scale.

Is your endurance improving during your runs? Do you have extra energy? Do you clothes fit more loosely? Are you sleeping a bit better?

You are about 6 weeks post-op, correct? You're still healing from your surgery! At 6 weeks I wasn't even walking for exercise yet, never mind running. You need time to heal. Then your body needs time to adjust to the MASSIVE changes this surgery has introduced:

- a lot less food

- different types of food (mostly liquids in the first few weeks)

- big changes in carb load, fat%, Protein levels

- recovery from a general anaesthetic

- hormone level adjustments (the body releases extra estrogen as it breaks down fat)

It is STILL way too early to think this isn't going to work.

And I'm now 14 months post-op and I can gulp liquids all I want as long as they are not carbonated. You are probably NOT "sipping liquids for life". Things are going to change a lot for you in the coming year. How well it goes depends a lot on your attitude.

Try to look on the positive aspects of each situation. Stalls, slow loss and recovery are something that every single VSG patient has to deal with at some point in their journey.

This is not a quick fix. You didn't gain the weight overnight, you won't lose it overnight. But if you're really committed to making a lifelong change for the better, it begins with ONE step (wake up today in a positive mood and make THIS day count). String those one steps together and you'll finish the marathon and get to goal.

You can do this. Just quit the pity party, rededicate yourself to success and keep going. Success will come with hard work, patience and desire.

I keep reading how everyone is loving their sleeve but so far I'm not. I will only say that I am only a week and a 1/2 out from surgery and still on full liquids. My weight loss has slowed down to a snail crawl...I have gone from losing a pound a day to .6 ounces to .4 ounces and now .2 ounces, and I'm not even 2 weeks in yet....smh...I know I shouldn't be discouraged but it's hard. I get in 75-85 grams of Protein a day plus a minimum of 48 ounces of Water. I am walking between 8,5000-10,000 steps a day. I am concerned that when I move on to purées it will completely stop and it's too soon to be stalling. It's a little disheartening considering I just cut 80% of my stomach out. I probably could have made just as much progress on weight watchers.

Listen, there are enough of us in the dysfunctional weigh yourself everyday club, we are not looking for new members. You are torturing yourself needlessly by doing that. Commit to weighing once a week AND NO MORE!

You're a week and a half out and wondering why you're still on full liquids? I was on full liquids for two weeks and lots of people around here don't get to full liquids until they've done 2 weeks of Clear Liquids after surgery! Slow down please, there's no fire.

Fantastic job on the Protein, the fluids, and especially the walking. Keep up the good work!

It's gonna be okay, hang in there!

Well at my 1 month surgery date (June 17) I was down 18 lbs, not too shabby but nowhere near 30 lbs+ everyone boasts about. Since June 17, I HAD (past tense) lost 3 more pounds but I started running last week and since I am up 1.4 lbs. I am so afraid/frustrated that by July 17 (just 2 weeks from today) I will only be down 5 lbs overall if that. I eat like a bird (yes I do get in all of my calories and Protein, keep my carbs under control as well as fat and sodium) an work out 4-5 days a week, keep my daily steps above 10,000. This far I have not had a day where I didn't think my sleeve was pointless. There is no way on a normal diet program (Lindora, weight watchers, etc) eating the way I do and working out the way I do a 1.6 lb loss in 2 weeks would not be considered a failure. I am also not losing a crazy amount of inches. I have been in the same size since May 27 when I lost the first 10 lbs post-op.

I understand your frustration, but I don't think it's the "norm" to lose 30 lbs in the first month. Remember how long it took to put it on. Also, the sleeve is about maintenance as well as weight loss. Only 5% of people who lose weight thru nonsurgical means keep it off. the rate is MUCH higher if you've had WLS. Wishing you all the best--I think it's normal to feel anxious at this stage but in a few months, you will look back and realize how much these incremental losses add up! Good luck.

My weight loss stalled out on the 10th day post op for 3 solid weeks. I was taking in 250-350 daily at that time and completely flabbergasted! By 5th week I was getting in 750 cals and steady weight loss resumed. Just like everyone else is saying here, gotta give your body time to adjust and realize that many of us will lose in spurts. Maintaining a consistent healthy diet and exercise WILL yield results over time but if you just measure one day at a time you might drive yourself completely mad.

I am three weeks post op and am gaining weight I don't understand! I'm not even eating 800 calories. I just started a few semi solid things. I just don't get it. How is this possible. Before surgery I would've taken in 3000+ calories and stayed the same. I refuse to fail again. I need suggestions. Please feel free to help.

I'm 9wks tomorrow and have not lost a pound in 2 1/2 wks. I have Protein Shakes and lean Protein. My calories vary from 650-850. I never feel discomfort from eating or drinking. I've lost 36lbs since sx on 4/29. I feel absolutely heart broken and angry. Sometimes I think I didn't actually have a sleeve at all.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
