So far, not loving my sleeve

I keep reading how everyone is loving their sleeve but so far I'm not. I will only say that I am only a week and a 1/2 out from surgery and still on full liquids. My weight loss has slowed down to a snail crawl...I have gone from losing a pound a day to .6 ounces to .4 ounces and now .2 ounces, and I'm not even 2 weeks in yet....smh...I know I shouldn't be discouraged but it's hard. I get in 75-85 grams of Protein a day plus a minimum of 48 ounces of Water. I am walking between 8,5000-10,000 steps a day. I am concerned that when I move on to purées it will completely stop and it's too soon to be stalling. It's a little disheartening considering I just cut 80% of my stomach out. I probably could have made just as much progress on weight watchers.

You are having the " WTF did I just do" moment that a lot of people go through. You have to look at the long term. The weight didn't appear over night and it isn't going away over night either. It will take time for the body to adjust to the major surgery you just had. First thing is to stop weighing every day...just stop that! It doesn't do you any good what so ever to measure in .5 increments. Second, stay on your plan. It will work, you just have to have the patience and the mind set that over the long run, you will be successful. It is easy to get discouraged, I have been there. I see people that have lost more weight than me that was sleeved after me. I follow my eating plan and I work out, I track everything like a crazy, but I got through stalls and have lost really slowly. But you know what, that's fine, it isn't more weight coming on, it is weight that is going off, never to return. This isn't going to be a quick fix, but more of a permanent solution, if you do things correctly. Hang in there!

Okay, take a breath. The weight will come off, but not in a couple of weeks time. You are just post op and your body is swollen and trying to adjust to the trauma of surgery. During the surgical case they give you IV Fluid and you are going to get rid of that soon as well. Please be patient. I went through the same thoughts/feelings and it is much better now. You will go through plateaus and stalls when your body is trying to keep up with the loss. The three week stall is infamous, but it does get better. I'm 5 weeks out next Monday and still learning. I remember how I felt when I was where you are and I thought if I had to drink one more Protein anything I would choke someone. :). Take one day at a time. It gets better and there are a ton of ppl on here who have been there and will listen/encourage you. I'm keeping you in my prayers that this will turn around soon for ya.

It's too early to think "it's over". Seriously, you are still in active healing and your body is adjusting to the shock of major surgery. Not to mention that MANY people hit a "stall" around Week 3 post-op, but it can be sooner or later. Each person/body is unique.

You need to stay "on plan", stop weighing yourself every day (a sure way to drive yourself insane), and give yourself time to heal. It will be weeks before you settle into a "normal" eating routine and only then will you be in a better position to assess the real success of your VSG.

Long term, the sleeve will give you ability to maintain your loses after you hit your goal weight. Weight watchers gives you "tools, techniques and support groups", to help you maintain, but no physical restriction. The sleeve "stops you in your tracks" if you eat too much.

Through the scale away just weigh at the dc or once a week and drink more Water. Relax and enjoy the ride.

Your weighing every day the weight don't come off that fast .. I'm sensitive to the fact your just a week and a half out .. In time w weightloss you will be happy

don't be too discourage it will get better and I know you hear those words before but it does. I am now a month out and loosing more than my first two weeks out. On my second week I lost 1 pound in a week to be exact and I was feeling the same way comparing to others who loosing 8 to 11 lbs. I realized as time goes by I am loosing more. I am now at an average at 5lbs per week. This all to say we all are different and will adjust to this weight loss journey at different amounts and pace. Keep hanging in there. :)

I lost my biggest chunk of weight at about 3 months post op. 25 lbs in the month of april

Everything that everyone else has said so far is totally true - it is WAY to early to be feeling discouraged! Your body just needs to catch up. I felt discouraged for my first couple of weeks, because I hadn't shrunk out of any of my clothes yet! I am 2+ months out now, and I am shrinking out of clothes faster than I can buy them!

The other thing to keep in mind is that your hormones are going through all sorts of adjustments right now as well, and many people often feel a little depressed and/or full of anxiety after surgery - this also contributes to your frustration. Give your hormones - and the rest of your body - a chance to stabilize and get with the new program.

Thanks everyone, I know patience is definitely not one of my virtues. I know emotionally maybe it's just buyers remorse and it doesn't help that I feel sub-human because I drink all of my meals. Have decided to hide my scale and check again on June 17, my 1 month mark. For now, get ready to start chewing my purées tomorrow ;-)

What makes you think it's too soon to be stalling? SAYS WHO? I was sleeved in mid-march and stalled for the ENTIRE month of APRIL.. even had some gains.. it is NORMAL and it's ok.. I'll still get there and so will you.

How are you getting on with your sleeve now?

Well at my 1 month surgery date (June 17) I was down 18 lbs, not too shabby but nowhere near 30 lbs+ everyone boasts about. Since June 17, I HAD (past tense) lost 3 more pounds but I started running last week and since I am up 1.4 lbs. I am so afraid/frustrated that by July 17 (just 2 weeks from today) I will only be down 5 lbs overall if that. I eat like a bird (yes I do get in all of my calories and Protein, keep my carbs under control as well as fat and sodium) an work out 4-5 days a week, keep my daily steps above 10,000. This far I have not had a day where I didn't think my sleeve was pointless. There is no way on a normal diet program (Lindora, weight watchers, etc) eating the way I do and working out the way I do a 1.6 lb loss in 2 weeks would not be considered a failure. I am also not losing a crazy amount of inches. I have been in the same size since May 27 when I lost the first 10 lbs post-op.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
