Band to sleeve..... So anxious!

Recommended Posts

Hi all, was banded 3 years ago and loved it, I lost about 55 kilos. I actually had a 'life'. I was able to buy clothes that i actually liked and not anything that i fit into, i felt so healthy, the confidence was great, i loved dressing up in front of my daughters and then hearing them say " oh mum..... you look beautiful", i loved how i learnt how to run and then competed in marathons........ it was all great! until, i began vomiting everyday in January this year for 4 weeks, to the point where I couldn't even keep sips of Water down. I became so malnutrition that I was forced to get me band removed because it 'slipped'. After the surgery to remove the band, i was confident so much that i really thought I could keep the weight off, especially because i knew now how to exercise and eat better. BUT unfortunately the weight piled on and have since put on 30 kilos!!! I feel so disgusting, unhealthy, no self esteem ...actually worst than how I felt at 117kilos! So, I decided to be sleeved and my op is scheduled for 2nd July. I can't wait to get me life back to how it was last year. No doubt, I'm scared of any complications, but I pray for a safe and healthy future after July and pray that God guides those doctors/surgeons hands! I look forward to continuing to reading your posts/thoughts/ideas/etc.... And I will do my best to try answer and support you guys as much as I can as.

Good luck to you all AND congratulations to all of you who have successfully been sleeved already!

You are all so brave!

I had a revision from band to sleeve 3/23 of this year and I feel like it is my chance for a do over! I have lost all the weight that I had gained and it has already slowed but due to a stall and from what I have read, no different from anyone who has had the sleeve. I couldn't be happier :)

Lost all your weight ALREADY??? WOW....... Good on you! Are you exercising or has the weight loss been because of the surgery/portion sizes?

Revision here and loving it! A few tips: use a surgeon who has experience with revisions - we're a lil different. Ask the surgeon to keep you in the hospital an extra day or two - because I knew I wad higher risk I would have driven myself crazy at home w every little pain. Plus I think the extra babying in the hospital helped me recover faster. Went back to my desk job post op day four. People dread leaving with a drain but I had one and it gave me great comfort. Everytime I looked at that drain I knew I didn't have a leak or infection.

This is do much different and better than life w band once it has gone bad. I'm Losing rapidly but even if I didn't, no more throwing up and finally feeling satiated is so worth it.

Come on over to the sleeved side!

mpi, I'm in almost the exact situation. I was banded 4 1/2 years ago, lost down from 275 pounds to 157 pounds. Then got to the point that I couldn't eat or drink anything. Had to have the band unfilled, the ER doctor punctured my tubing, and I've gained 30 pounds in the past 6 months. Saw a surgeon today and am scheduled for a revision to sleeve on July 2nd. I know exactly how you are feeling. I was so excited to have lost the weight and felt so good about myself. I was off all medications, able to be active, and felt good about the way that I looked. I'm a bit anxious about a second surgery, but excited to get through this. Good luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
