Who has had surgery at Stanford? Dr Rivas?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm going to Stanford for my sleeve in a couple weeks and I was just anxious and nervous about it. It would be great to hear other people's opinions and experiences with Stanford and Dr Rivas.

They're supposedly one of the best. I just would like to talk to an actual person who had it done there. What if was like etc. I'm really nervous and I've already backed out once. Trying to hold my nerve and get it over with.

Thanks Laura!

I had my surgery at Stanford with Dr. Morton. Everyone is wonderful there. You will be in good hands! You can pm me if you need any questioned answered.

Dr. Morton performed my gastric bypass at Stanford a month ago. He is a great surgeon and I appreciate the entire bariatric team there. I never met Dr. Rivas but I did hear about him. I am pretty sure that he is just as good considering that it is Stanford and all the doctors there are highly reputable. I had a bad heart problem and started treatment with Dr Vagelos in cardiology. He was insisting on me needing a transplant eventually but I worked hard enough to get my heart in better shape and up to par for surgery clearance. If it wasn't for Stanford, I don't think I would even be alive now so don't worry... You are in good hands. Guaranteed.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
