Arizona Family: Mother of 7 Jailed in Mexico on Bogus Charge

Recommended Posts

This is so scary! May have to copy and paste the link to read but basically the American mother was riding on a bus with her family to go to a funeral in Mexico when they stopped them at the checkpoint and found drugs under her seat. They claim its not theirs but she's being held in a Mexico prison.

Lucky for those of us who use booking agencies, we have awesome drivers who bring us back and forth over the border and they don't run drugs while they're doing it. Lot of shady stuff goes down in Mexico.. FORTUNATELY we're very sheltered from that during our stays.

I didn't even consider going over the border, I went one time for an all inclusive vacation, but it was still scary. The us not to get arrested because there is nothing he could do to help us. Very sad, when I was little, my grandparents live in El Paso. We use to park and walk across the bridge to Juarez. I remember watching the glass blowers make all sort of things. It was very touristy. People can not do this any longer with all the drug cartel. There are shootings/murders right there where we use to go. People have gone over there never to be seen again. The lady who booked our trip for us, did tell us not to leave the resort unless it was a planned group outing, but it was best to stay inside the resort until we are picked up to head back to the airport. I'm still kind of a rebel, but we stayed put!!

Yea in the report someone in the US advised them to pay the police a large sum of money to get her out but the Mexico police said its to late for that.

you must also realize the point of entry is somewhere in Arizona/Texas - a very high drug area.

I would not give this a second thought. I sure dont and I have been to TJ many times.

When people travel outside of the United States they expect other countries to cater to us because we are Americans and don't realize the rules are TOTALLY different!

Go to the El Paso Times, the Juarez section - http://www.elpasotimes.com/juarez or just do a search on Juarez. It will scare the bejeebers out of you!! LOL

Yes, I did research on Juarez and decided differently. I believe the lady that was held was deeper into Mexico than a border town. Believe me, when I get picked up tomorrow I am certainly looking under the seats and in the luggage area of the van. When ever I go on a trip something always happens. This thing with the pot, one of our cruises the night before the Concordia crashed and tipped over, someone died on my last cruise in March, I was supposed to be on the Grandeur last week and am going on it in the fall. I think I need to quit planning trips...although a little hard when a travel agent.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
