SO Annoying! Anyone else share my frustration?

Recommended Posts

My hubby and I both got our sleeves the same day. A few weeks ago, we went out to eat. My hubby said I was just STARING at a group of normal-sized people eating and I didn't even notice. But I couldn't believe how much they were eating! Even the kids!!! I'm trying to keep myself from watching people now. ;)

I went out to dinner with my boyfriend today (this is not the frustrating part' date=' lol). He ordered half a dozen garlic rolls smothered in butter, rib rolls, full rack of ribs, and a brownie sundae. Oh, and 4 refills of his coke.

I had half of a mahi sandwich without the bread and maybe a tablespoon of black Beans.

Since I was done much earlier than him, I sat there and essentially watched him eat. At one point, just as a morsel of BBQ Sauce started dripping down the side of his mouth, I felt a really strong urge to smack the ribs out of his hand and yell SSSTOOOOPPPPP EATINGGGGGG!!!! I mean, seriously. He INHALES his food. I could swear that sometimes he doesn't even chew it. It's really unattractive to see him eat so much. Does anyone else feel this way? Am I a horrible girlfriend? Lol

Oh, and as I write this, he just went to the kitchen for a "tiny snack". Smh

I know he doesn't order so much delicious food on purpose. He's a big guy (6'3" and maybe 220lbs) so I understand he won't be satisfied with a Caesar salad. But c'mon.

Let me say one more thing: I have no desire to eat any of the stuff that he ordered. I was perfectly happy with my sandwich. but ordering and eating all that food?? Does anybody else get frustrated/annoyed/disgusted when watching people eat unhealthy food? Is it just me?[/quote']

I to understand how you feel one week after I was done my husband went to McDonald's had three cheese burgers and a French fries then in the morning he had three. eggs three English muffins and a half a pound of bacon then at dinner half a rack of and corn then that night pop cron ice cream and nuts then the next day same Breakfast went out to eat a clam strip basket Bloody Mary then the Snacks at night again after watching this I was so happy that I made this choice because I to ate the same way and I don't even miss it I try to tell him that he might want to cut down but he thinks I am just picking on him he to is 6"3 but 270 lbs) and 60 yrs.

My husband is 6'1" and weighs 185. If he doesn't eat 4000 calories a day, he drops weight. He is perfectly healthy and is living, breathing proof that life is totally unfair! I am fascinated to watch someone blessed to have that metabolism. I don't resent him. It is such a true struggle for him to eat enough that sometimes I even feel the tiniest bit sorry for him. But only a teeny tiny bit. :)

I just read about the rib roll and if that is heaven on earth, then I must be going to hell. It may taste great but sounds absolutely horrific. Why would anyone eat that? Trust me I would say the same thing even if I wasn't sleeved.

I truly know exactly how you feel and I feel guilty for feeling this way. Anytime I see my husband snacking or pigging out I just get so grossed out I have to leave the room. It is the most unattractive thing in the world and I try to drop little hints like, "hey shouldn't that box of snack cakes last a whole week not an hour?" But he doesn't catch on. He isn't overweight and he can eat enormous amounts of calories without gaining weight because his job is a physical labor job and he works 12+ hours a day. It's just frustrating to watch. It annoyed me a little before surgery but not too bad because I ate junk too but now it's just super gross and it makes me sad that I'm so grossed out by it.

I've eliminated a lot of the junk food in the house. When I let my kids have some chips I now put it in a snack size plastic bag. They are adjusting just fine. My husband is in awe of the weight loss and is now jumping on the weight loss wagon. I'm not to buy more sodas for him, no more chips, etc, so it's all dwindling out completely.

I have not ventured to a restaurant yet except for Breakfast on our way back from camping. I ordered off the Denny's kids menu. I did watch a guy next to us (incredibly skinny) put away 2 huge plates of food and a side of bacon and a side of toast. I couldn't even do that back in the day, LOL.

On a good note, at least it's gross to you and not a trigger to want to overeat :D

Haha, its at a restaurant here in Florida. If you're ever in the area and looking for a Rib Roll, let me know!

So funny... I overheard someone in my office today talking about something similar that they have at a restaurant here in Dallas. Eggroll filled with brisket, bacon, cheese, BBQ Sauce and jalapenos. Sounds sooo good!!!!

I to look at people and think they are eating to much but it's usually women that I feel that way about. I sometimes think to myself are they really eating to much or does it just look like they are because I can only eat small amounts.

No, people are truly eating that much. When my family and I go out for dinner, we are horrified by the massive quantities of food we see people eat. My wife looks at me and says "no wonder America is such an obese nation". However, I think we become more aware if how others eat after surgery.

It's been an ongoing increase for the last 40 years--and I'm pretty sure that if we tracked it back further (say to the early 1900's) it would be even more drastic. Here's a graphic that shows just one meal and how much bigger it is now than it was in the 1950's.

The calorie counts aren't listed, but it's not hard to guess that they've definitely increased, too!

I get grossed out myself, but there is no way i'm gonna get on my high horse to somebody else as if I had self control before surgery. I actually feel compassion because I know how it is.

Totally. I am repulsed at watching my husband shovel food away completely unaware of my new consciousness of food. I don't even want to eat out anymore!

So glad for this post! I have been feeling the same way! These past 2 weekends has been nothing but BBQ's and it is amazing how many people SHOVE food in their mouths! Then to see them say "I am so full" but they go back for more or for dessert! My oldest son these past 11 years has changed his eating habits and eats very well. My grandson who is 10 has only been to fast food restaurants a handful of times. No microwaving, only organic…ect. It is funny how as humans we are all so different! :P

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
