Potassium

Recommended Posts

I seem to be falling short on potassium intake. Anybody have any suggestions on how to improve this? I was told that it is very important to maintain my potassium levels. Any thoughts?

I am doing very low carb so many of the best sources of potassium are not on the menu at present.

Most whey Protein powders have a good amount. Flounder and sole are good fish sources of potassium. Swiss chard has a lot. Avocado has a fair amount.. but even with this I was still short and was starting to get leg cramps at night! Electrolyte drinks are good sources but they also have a lot of SODIUM in them which I did not NEED. i already get enough sodium, even too much. I finally found Vitamin Water ZERO the "revive" flavor.. it has 880 mg of potassium.. that's 25% of the RDA.. I've been drinking a bottle a day and it's just enough to fill in the gap of what I'm missing. Other flavors of the Vitamin Water Zero do not have this amount of potassium.. only the "revive" flavor.

I'm concerned about this as well. I drink premier or EAS shakes, or V8 daily . They have about 1/4 your daily dose. Salt sense or salt substitute have potassium. Low sodium V8 is higher than regular. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
