Don't worry. Some people's stomach swells more post-op than others. Just because you can down 4 oz. of Soup now, it's no indicator of your final portion sizes when you get to solid food such as chicken or fish.

Lynda

Thanks Lynda! I couldn't keep anything down for the first few days AT ALL, but then it seems like my body just kind of decided to go with the flow. My incisions don't hurt and my tummy feels more or less normal (other than holding less!) I'm hoping that I'm just healing quickly :) It took me a whole work day to finish a Protein drink today, so it's not as though I'm eating anyone out of house and home. haha

When you say you can only have 2 oz, do you mean that's all you are ABLE to eat or that's all you're supposed to eat? Because I can already have way more than 2 oz of Soup in one sitting...

I have an extremely strick Dr. and of course we are never to eat more than 3 oz once we have the sleeve...and yes we are SUPPOSE to only eat 2 oz especially while your stomach is healing.

I'm pretty sure most people eat more than 3 oz once they have the sleeve and are healed. Did you just mean during the healing phase?

I had surgery May 20th, and I follow a meal plan and when its time for my Soup, 2x a day. I was told to mix a can of cream of chicken with a cup of fat free milk and bring it to a boil then for every 1/2 cup of soup to add 2 tbsp of fat free dry milk and mix. so I have to have or at least drink until im full 1/2 cup of soup which is 10g protein..but ive been able to tolerate the whole 1/2 cup but it takes me a while and after I feel full.

does this sound similar to anyone else?

I am sure they do too...but no my dr. says no more than 3 oz per meal for life...Based on what I readying on here that sounds like people are eating more than that...just what he is saying. but they do expect that between meals you get a Protein Shake and Water too..so maybe if you follow that pattern you may only need to 3 oz at a time.

That makes sense! Sounds like your surgeon encourages more of the tiny meals through the day approach rather than the 3 "meals" approach. It's crazy how different everyone's plans are!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
