Has anyone heard of Dr. Oscar Lumban in Tijuana?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm new to this forum and will introduce myself in another post. I have a friend who actually worked with Dr. Alvarez as a patient coordinator. She has a very great relationship with him and has taken multiple people (herself included) to see him and his associates for GS and plastic surgery. She set my surgery up for me but is also now working for a Dr. Oscar Lumban. He is in Tijuana and most of his patients are Mexican. He isn't on the web, but he's been doing bariatric surgery for 25 years. He actually performs his surgery in the Hospital Angeles, not just the clinic. I am doing a revision and I have Multiple Sclerosis. My friend feels it is better for me to be in the hospital environment with this doctor. I was wondering if any of you have heard of him.

I read your post with concern.... I hope that you try and find a surgeon in an American Hospital since you have a medical condition ......I was going to go to Mexico and to Dr. Alvarez....after exploring other options ,etc....I decided that it was not for me.... there is no recourse in medical facilities and physicians who operate out of the USA should something go wrong....... there are plenty of fine hospitals and surgeons right here in the USA....wishing you all the best in good health.......

Going to Mexico is not bad. In fact, the Mexican doctors have a longer successful history of sleeve surgeries than the US doctors.

The issue is the MS

My mother had MS and what I would be concerned about is having some type of relapse or issue after the surgery and before you are able to get back into the states. You also need to contact your insurance company and find out how this would affect your coverage. Some insurance policies will not cover you out of the country....I know specifically mine does...but it is something you need to review entirely before doing it.

Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
