Monthly question really appreciated

Recommended Posts

I was so please to see this women's section as didn't want to freak out the men or women not wanting to help with this question.

I'm 5 days out of surgery today and at home once again, yay. However on day 3 I had some bleeding and nurse found unusual and asked about my period. As I explained to her I have the rod in my arm and have not had a period for about 18mths. Day 4 only one occurrence of spotting, mentioned to nurse again and the tested urine with not much found. Now day 5 I have normal (light for most) period (I'm guessing).

Anybody else had something like this were they didn't get periods and did soon after surgery? How do I know if I should be concerned? Thank you, awkward but means heaps

The surgery will stir up your hormones - could account for some unusual cycle occurences. The hormone disturbance also causes some mood issues after surgery. For me, it all seemed to even out 3-4 weeks after surgery.

I have the Mirena IUD and havent had bleeding at all since 09! I am 2 weeks po and have started spotting . Its perfectly normal! Hormones are stored in fat cells so as we loose weight the hormones get released...which can cause periods and crazy mood swings and a higher sex drive in many!

Oh thanks lady's ???? in my lack of sleep last night i also have a light bulb moment, I had one shot a day in the stomach to prevent blood clotting, which must be a blood thinner and might also contribute. Glad you guys said normal as I did get worried there for a bit

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
