New Years Resolutions

Recommended Posts

OK - it is coming up to that time where we think about the new year and vow to do something different or change in some way.

For me, this New Years is different because 2 months ago I finally took the steps I needed to follow through with the resolutions I have made every year for the past decade (or more). I got banded and I am working toward my goal. This year I will have to come up with something new.

I feel like so many of my resolutions are really tied into my weight: be more active, be a better mom, get more involved at school, spend less time watching t.v., etc.

My resolutions for 2007:

I resolve to stop getting on the scale every day. I am going to try to wait a month between weighing in (maybe just at the dr's??)

I resolve to spend more effort on my appearance and stop waiting until after I lose the weight.

I resolve to volunteer more

How about you all?

I will stop smoking

I will continue to work out at least 3 days a week.

I will stop eating when my band tells me its full and not stretch it out.

I love a shot of scotch at the end of the day, but on "not so great days" it ends up being more than just a shot or two......therefore,

I resolve to cut out 5 days / week from my evening scotch ritual

also, I resolve to stop procrastinating.....I've been terrible at that lately.

I think this year...maybe for the first time ever, my resolution will not be about weight. I know I am on the right track and I feel (reasonably) confident that I will be at goal by next year... my b-dy is December 23rd and I want to be at goal for that ... next year (I will turn 40 in 2007).

So... I have 2 main resolutions for 2007

1. To enjoy my kids more and worry less about how clean the house is and how organized my life is... relax and enjoy it girl!!!! They are sooo great!!

2. To keep running and be ready to do a 5k by year end (am hoping to do the family disney run in January 2008).

So... that's it for me!!

My resolutions:

1. Spend lots of time with my hubby/son.

2. Re-Learn my band and try to lose weight.

3. Take my meds daily on set schedule instead of when I remember them. (**doh**)

Now I would put exercise in here, but I do that every year, so this year I won't put it on the list and see if I get off my butt and do it. Reverse psychology this year.

- listen to my body and my band

eat until 'not hungry' not 'full'

- REALLY push myself with exercise one or more times a week

try a kick boxing class, go an extra 15 - 20 minutes on the treadmill, etc...

- try to cut down with the carbs

- wear clothes that fit, not 3+ sizes too big

even if it means wearing the same 5 outfits every week

- try to stop using so much plastic

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
