What's the verdict on potatoes? Are they healthy or not? I know sweet potatoes are but I just think they taste, well sweet. I mean a baked russet or Yukon potato for lunch? Is that bad? Just wondering post op diet changes so I can stock my house.

They aren't the best choice because they have little if any Protein and are higher in carbs. Post-op you should focus on high protein with the little room you'll have in your swollen, smaller stomach.

Thank you!! How about further down the road? Are there potato products out there that are better than others. My dietician said that "Alexis sweet potato fries" in the freezer section are a good choice but this was a month ago while I was on the pre op diet before my liquid diet. I'm wondering if potatoes will ever be "ok" again.

You can always have mashed potatoes and add a scoop of unflavored protein! Can't even tell it is in there and now you have made something you like to eat and it is good for you! I was told to do this during the "mushy food" phase, and will continue to any time I eat mashed potatoes!

Potatoes are about the best source of potassium on a per-calorie basis that we can find in real foods (and potassium is not supported well in our normal OTC supplements, ) so they earn a place in my diet on that basis alone. In loss mode it's hard to afford much of them, (or much of anything beyond Protein, for that matter!) but I did have some token amounts during that phase. As suggested, adding unflavored Protein Powder to mashed potatoes is a good early soft protein food, and is a classic suggestion in many plans.

I love white potatoes and cauliflower whipped together for mashed potatoes that would add some Protein. My kids think there is something wrong with the potatoes if the cauliflower is missing...

I am 11 weeks out...KFC mashed potatoes are one of the few foods I can eat without a lot of discomfort...and I am still losing weight even though I have them...

Good luck!

You really want to focus on Protein as much as possible, potatoes are so heavy you can't really eat much with them.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
