AutismMom 92 Posted May 27, 2013 My doctor requires 4-5 days on inpatient stay after surgery. So I'll have surgery Monday the 17th and if it goes perfect he'll only make me stay until the 20th or 21st....anyone else doc require this long of a stay?
Twanda 0 Posted May 27, 2013 I was in for 4 days. It was standard for all VGS patients.
mokee 588 Posted May 27, 2013 What are you having done? Are you having laparoscopic sleeve? Seems like a lot of time. Can't believe insurance would pay for that if no complications.
Purplrose323 32 Posted May 27, 2013 My doc says 1-2 days in the hospital.
Truckerchic_M 92 Posted May 27, 2013 Another area that all programs are different in, a lot depends on insurance also. My doctor said 2 days as long as im getting some fluids in.
makemyownluck 785 Posted May 27, 2013 I was in for 2 days. The doc said that's what I should expect and that's what it was... I'm surprised your insurance would pay for all of that.

Rycherchick 147 Posted May 27, 2013 Standard? Wow. I went in at 1:00 pm and was out by 10:00 am the next day.
MichiganChic 3,262 Posted May 27, 2013 I was in 2 days, but could have stayed longer. I didn't have any issues other than just not feeling great. Most insurance pays on the DRG, not number of days stay, so it's not likely a patient would be billed for a longer stay, other than copays and deductables. AutismMom 92 Posted May 27, 2013 I have tricare and I'm having my surgery done at a military treatment facility in Bethesda Maryland. So insurance isn't an issue. Everything is covered except my food and even that is covered sometimes. I'll also have one hernia repaired. But before I knew that he told me that was standard for VSG for his patients. He took my gallbladder out 3 weeks ago and did a fantastic job! Scars are minimal and I heeled rather quickly.
