Airline prices get higher closer to my date!

Recommended Posts

I cannot afford my airline ticket right now. I'm going to be sleeved on June 10th and cannot buy my ticket until the week before. When I checked airlines a month ago it was around 500. Now price are 650 or more. I'm so afraid of what the price will be a week from now! Wish I had the money to purchase now.

Yeah that's not abnormal...the closer to flight date, the higher the ticket. It's part of the reason I extended mine out 9 weeks instead of doing it the same month I decided to have the surgery, because it was cheaper to buy a ticket for a date much farther out. (you do what ya gotta do)

Sometimes though airlines will dump tickets the night before, but that's a bad risk to take. Have you looked at all airlines, all options, all your surrounding airports (sometimes it's cheaper to go out of a different one.)? Try looking at flights on a site like travelocity to make sure another airline doesn't have a better deal.

Can you purchase it on credit card and pay it off when the bill comes in?

Sorry for the frustration.

Yea I've looked at Hotwire, Orbitz etc. they cost the same amount as going through the airline! It's cheaper by $100 if I were to drive an hour away to get a flight but its not worth it since someone will have to drive me out there, drive back, then pick me up when I come back. I don't want to put a hardship on my driver.

You definitely don't want to buy the ticket any less than 14 days out if you can help it....

I'm a travel agent. Don't buy with in 2 weeks of travel...the further out the better you are. We also had to pay for seats beside each other (my hubby) as many seats were sold out so the airline wants to sock it to you. Don't forget about paying for checked bags. Use kayak.com . You can put in your travel dates and it will compare all the different sites..priceline, orbits etc...but they are all within a few dollars of each other. You can sign up for alerts so if the price comes down jump...but definately don't wait. The 2 weeks before our flight they doubled.

I wish I didn't have to wait but there is no other way. I have to wait until I can get the money.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
