A friend of mine wants me to start juicing. I know we are not suppose to have raw veggies early on (I'm 4 weeks today) but is juicing ok since it takes out all the fibrous stuff????

My first question that came to mind is what do YOU want to do?

I think occasionally juicing is great, but not as a replacement to your Protein first goal this early out.

The juicing craze feels like a fad diet to me, but there's no harm in supplementing your diet with nutrient enriched juice, IMO.

I hate the idea of juicing because you don't get the Fiber from the veggies

I use a VitaMix instead of an extraction method--so you get the Vitamins, nutrients and fiber. You have to be cautious about what you use though and keep within your daily carbohydrate counts. I don't do it every day and I use lower-carb fruits and veggies--and Protein Powder.< /p>

I enjoy juicing and I was told not until 6 weeks.. and to ESPECIALLY avoid citrus until 6 weeks because it can interfere with stomach healing.

Right now I'm doing low carb... which is kind of hard to juice while low carb, but I will juice up some kale and pour the juice in my sugar free lemonade. Getting in veggies can be difficult with the sleeve so juicing is a great way to get the micronutrients from the veggies without having to eat a huge plate of greens.

Also, juicing only takes out the insoluble fiber (the cellulose) you still get all the soluble fiber in the juice.

Thanks ill wait a couple more weeks. I'm not a huge juice fan have always wanted to get my nutrients from fresh fruits and veggies but want to stay healthy, since that was the reason I got my sleeve.

When juicing, be sure to avoid spinach and rhubarb if you are prone to kidney stones--both are high in oxalates. Some people have a higher risk of kidney stones after bariatric surgery.

I have a Breville juicer and was juicing last year before I decided to get VSG. I never felt better nor did my skin look better. Years ago I bought the Healthmaster because I fell for the "you don't get the fiber if you juice" bs as well. However, the thing about juicing is that your digestive system doesn't have to break down all that fiber and the nutrients from the juice are absorbed into your blood stream in about 10-20 minutes of consuming the juice. Also - with the sleeve - some times "fibrous" foods are harder for your new stomach to break down. I have avoided juicing & I'm 6.5 months out - but am considering adding it back into my diet plan. I did juice a couple times and mixed in the unflavored Protein powder into my juice. I think it's up to you whether you want to juice or not - I would suggest that you juice your own fruits & veggies and not buy over the counter high sugar juices and use an unflavored protein powder in the juice so you can get your protein as well. You might want to wait until you are further out like around 6 months when your stomach should be pretty much healed. TTYL & good luck. Connie

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
