First Time to the Site...

Recommended Posts

Hi! My name is Kelly and this is the first time I have been to this site :biggrin1:

My husband and I are considering lap band surgery and have loads of questions. I'll probably be lurking around reading some posts to get my bearings around here, but if anyone has any advice for us I'd appreciate it!

My husband and I own a small business in PA and currently do not have private insurance. While researching the surgery, my husband ran across a site that offers lap band surgery in Mexico for much less than what would be charged in the US......anyone with experience?

Can't wait to read around and get to know some of ya!

Thanks :nervous

I'm your person, lol. I had anthem bc/bs but they wanted me to jump through hoops to get them to pay so I went to Monterrey Mexico. It was 8500.00 for everything including your stay and free fills for life. The hospital was bigger and better than any I've ever stayed in here in the states. The treatment we received was top 5 star. I would do it over in a heartbeat and I've sent 4 dear friends who had their surgery Oct. 31 and 3 other people I didn't know. My surgeon had done over 7000 of these. He was tragically killed 2 weeks ago but his associate is still doing them and he's top notch as well. If you have any questions please feel free to pm me, I'd be more than happy to help you. My weight loss has stalled a little this month as I've been in the hospital twice in a month for kidney stones but I've still lost about 60 pounds in 5 months. I love my band and have had absolutely no problems at all.

Texas,

I am a newbie too. Have you gone to an informational seminar yet? Even if you don't go to a PA doc, it might be a good way to get an introduction to lapband surgery. It was the first step that I took and it was very helpful.

Hi,

My name is Edie. I live in Sacramento, CA. I will be having my lapband surgery on January 25,2006. My surgeon is Dr. Cirangle from Laporoscopy San Francisco. I currently weigh 208 Lbs (I can't believe I actually put that down). and I am 5'3".. I'm a little nervous. Afraid of failure I suppose.

Welcome Kelly! Another option to going to Mexico if price is the reason.... my doc in Denver does the band for $9950 which includes everything.

PM me if I can help!

Congrats on chosing the lapband. You will feel wonderful after you get your band and you're well on your way. I don't have any experience with Mexico but that Denver doctor above sounds like a great deal. Most US doctors are $15-20k. Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
