I dont understand when people can eat normal amts of slider foods. I was curious as to how I would be with my heroin ( phish food) I measured out a quarter cup and ate some. I could only eat 2 bites as it hurt so bad. So happy! And It wasnt all that either. I think I my Sleevie Wonder is small. Grateful for 62 pounds gone.

Rycherchick

congrats on losing 62 lbs!!!!

WooHoo

via the board - i was told about sliders, and warned about their "danger"

i have (3) sliders

popcorn

Protein bars

yogurt

I am too successful with eating more than i should without feeling full - thus the word slider

but..........

took me a while but i now.................

eat all the above muchhhhhhhhhhhhhhh slower (like i'm supposed to anyways)

the yogurt especially surprised me

i would only have one yogurt for a meal or a snack - but i did eat it quicker than i should have

now i'm taking a bite slowly, and stopping for a bit before eating more

again, this is what i should have done from the beginning

popcorn is getting better now too

i "used" to have (2) two small bags of orville redenbocker (100 cal) on some nights

it was so easy to eat more that you/i should

thus the word slider

now i might have one every few days - i'll hide the rest of the box from myself ^_^

Protein Bars are my biggggg weakness

I literally give the bars to my 6" DH (I'm 5"3)

he puts them out of site on the highest shelf

i ate them too quickly cuz i was afraid someone would come over to the house and steal them

now i'll eat one over the course of a day (instead of "swallowing" them down at once)

so my "slider" foods i have learned how to deal with them

cuz i realllly do love to eat them :)

continued success :)

PGrams, you could have had worse sliders! LOL

I am a month out and I KNOW that I shouldn't have done it but I ate a chocolate truffle. Oh it so so smooth and creamy, and oh wait!! Sickeningly sweet, ew. Despite that last bit I still swallowed it down. I mean it had 4 gram of Protein so why not :) Yeah Yeah, I know it will slow down my weight loss.... But I have never been one to limit the types of food that I eat. the reason I got to the point where I needed the sleeve was because I ate way to much all the time.

Well, after I ate it, it felt like a lump was in my belly for the next hour. NOT the best decision. If I choose to have another it will most certainly be a few months from now. I think that is about all of the sliders I have had. I seem to be pretty full on shakes, soft Proteins, and Water

hi there

the Protein bar i lllllllllllllluv is MetroX Peanut Butter

they should be outlawed cuz they taste irrisistably terrific

its a bigggggggggg bar that has 30 grams of Protein

thats how i sometimes justify that its ok to eat :(

but 30 grams of carbs

OMG!!!!

i am quite capable (and have :( )eaten 3 in a day!!!!!

that is 90 carbs + i always have one yogurt

and something frozen like chicken patties

i know, i know shouldn't have all that pasteurized stuff :(

oh well, i do have it though - haven't been shot yet

in other words i gotta nix the frequent Protein Bars

their so good though - kindof like eating a candy bar

the chocolate truffle???

why didn't you call me ;)

Hi Grammy- do you eat the metrx bars on a regular basis (daily) over long term? I am thinking about eating these, but the calories do add up fast. In general, they are between 400-500 calories each bar. The one I like (only tried once) is the peppermint chocolate flavor. I am sure I would also enjoy the cookie dough flavor because I am into dessert tasting supplements.

I am three months out and have very little pain except when eating meat. I am doing good and measure my food but kind of wish I had more severe restriction

I think it's great to be warned about sliders and to understand them but I believe they will act differently depending on how far out you are from surgery but it wouldn't surprise me if some of us are more prone to experiencing sliding of food than others.... Cottage cheese is a slider for me.. I still eat it.. It's not like I'm going to OD on cottage cheese. I'm just aware that if I want satiety, I have to pair it with something else. When I was on purees.. it pretty much all just slid through.. I was soooo worried that my sleeve was going to fail because I was eating so much more than everyone else at my stage and never really feeling full.

People say chips are a slider... that doesn't mean that I'll NEVER eat chips again, but if I do, I'll just have to make sure that I'm relying on my willpower and Portion Control to eat an appropriate amount. There's no reason to fill my stomach up to the point of being full with chips.. It's not appropriate with a full size stomach and it's not appropriate with the sleeve!

I haven't had ice cream yet, but I'm pretty sure if I did, I could eat a gallon of it no problem.. I've never had a soft mushy food hurt me or make me feel full.

I do have a longer than normal sleeve so maybe by the time I'm able to fill it up with semi-liquidish foods, it's already starting to empty out of the bottom?

So we know chocolate is a slider, especoly the milk chocolate which is going to be lower in terms of cacao levels..

Would the health benefits of eating dark chocolate with 90% or higher cacao negate the slider quality a little?

I do not eat chocolate yet, but munching on a square of very fine chocolate seems appealing, especially because of the released endorphins and antioxydent properties.

^ EXACTLY. I love good food and I really love GOOD chocolate. The truffle I had was $3 for 2!! Indulge every once in a while. My daugther picked the milk chocolate with orange mint grenache and I picked the dark chocolate with lemon rosemary. Our truffles got mixed up, so that is why it was so sweet (I think).

forgetting for a minute the level of physical satiety the chocolate gives you.. which is basically NONE, I've ALWAYS found that the really REALLY dark chocolates.. are so flavorful that your mouth feels satisfied with very small portions. IMHO, sliders are only a problem if you are unable to exercise moderation with them.Although I don't currently eat any chocolate, in the pre-sleeve world I could eat a single square of high quality VERY dark chocolate and be very content.

^ me too!!! Anything that is VERY rich has always made me satisfied/content with small portions. For me that is ice cream, cake, brownies... and even chocolate.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
