My curriosity has anyone used quinoa for a source of Protein? I saw that on the full liquid diet you can have hot cearal....and quinoa is a small grain similar....So has anyone used this during full liquid or puree stage and how was it tolerated?

I used it some during the mushy post-op stage and still use it now (along with couscous), especially on days I lift. They are both a good complex carb that also has Protein. As for liquid, I'm not sure, it is a grain, but I did use it during the mushy or pureed stage.

I definitely would not eat quinoa during full liquid. It's actually a seed, and you don't want it to get it caught in your staple line while you are healing. Try some cream of wheat pureed with almond or soy milk and chocolate Protein Powder, or oatmeal pureed with sugar free peaches and thinned out with soy or almond milk--can add some vanilla or plain Protein powder.< /p>

I like quinoa and I dont need it right now...but sure when it would fit into the diet plan..if I can use it during puree foods that would be a good change with tons of protein...but not looking that far ahead right now...just doin my full liquids right now.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
