In pain for last 6 hours and counting

Recommended Posts

I have been banding for almost 2 years. I spent a significant amount of that time unfilled. I working my way back up with my fills. My last fill was over 2 weeks ago. Today, after two bites of lunch something got stuck. I heard that "gurgeling pipe" sound in my throat and felt the tight ball in my chest. I have thrown up 4-5 times in the last 3 hours. The first few episodes, not much came up. But the last one (5 hours after eating) was a dark slimmy liquid. Is this a PB? I have never experienced PBing but I had the impression that it was something that happed soon after eating, not 5 hours of pain later. I feel a littel bit better after the last vomit but still feel a painful "ball-like" feeling in my throat.

Lana,

I called this afternoon but they did not call back before the office closed. I hate to call him after hours if this is just part the PBing process and maybe I have just never experienced before. If throw up any more, I will definitely call.

Thanks for your response.

Janet

Fortunately, I've never PB'd so I can't help you there, but if it happens again don't worry about calling after hours - your health is more important..Feel better.

jsagiha please do call your dr just to be on the safe side...I know it can take weeks after your fill to start bp'ing but if you are doing it constantly and in pain...that needs to be checked out. you don't want the risk of slippage/erosion or anything...keep us posted.

Yikes what a horrible feeling. I've only had the stuck feeling a couple of times, and tiny, tiny sips of very warm coffee seemed to help. Before that, try bending at the waist, let your arms hang freely and see if that helps.

Let us know how you're doing.

Sounds like you might need a slight unfill. My fills kick in 6-10 days after a fill and then sometimes even later. I can't seem to recover from them once I start PBing. Sounds like you are going through what I do when overfilled. If you continue today go immediately for an unfill. There is no sense suffering and possibly doing damage.

Let us know.

Thank you everyone for responding. I ended up staying up all night long. I called my doctor last night and then this morning I met him at his office for an unfill. He completed deflated the banded. He said I will only need to keep it deflated for a couple weeks then we can start refilling again. I am a slightly disappointed that I needed to be deflated completely. Just because I have had the band for 2 years and had an unusual amount of fills and unfills (Barbara - in reading your fills and unfills it sounds like we have a similiar history). I have yet to experience the "sweet spot". I am still happy with the band as the 50 pounds that I have lost, I know I could not have lost without the band. My gratitude for not being in pain anymore far outweighs any slight disappoint with the deflation. Im so happy to just not be in pain anymore. Thanks again for your advise and concern.

Janet

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
