shutuplena 0 Posted December 19, 2006 Lets try and ask this without sounding stupid - I know there are different size bands. I have a 10-12 cc band and I get my first fill on 12/29. Doctor said he fills 3 cc's first time and sees how I do. Besides it being a larger band then others, is there an advantage or disadvantage in the sizes....Is this making any sense? Thanks for your help. Lana
LapBandit 5 Posted December 19, 2006 I don't really feel there are any advantages/disadvantages because you get the size you need to fit your body, that's really the only different between them all. Whatever size band, you'll eventually reach a good fill spot. The only thing I could think that might be a disadvantage would be if someone were given the smallest band and it was too tight right from the start. But...if the surgeon knows what they're doing then they make sure that doesn't happen! You're question wasn't stupid and don't be afraid to ask any other questions you might have! clovermeg 2 Posted December 19, 2006 My doctor told me that there is a correlation between your height and the size of the band you will receive (thus I'm assuming between the size of your stomach). This sounds wierd to me.
HealthQuest 1 Posted December 19, 2006 Quite frequently, the band is choosen based on Dr's preference. Case in point, according to your ticker I weigh more than you do, but got a 4cc band.
shutuplena 0 Posted December 19, 2006 Thank you so much for your responses, I guess it is the doctor's preference. I'm sure I'll find out soon enough..Thanks again! Lana

flabuless 18 Posted December 19, 2006 Hi ya I have a 4cc band although I am currently filled to 3.5 and still need more so it really depends on the person/tummy etc. becky
juliegeraci 7 Posted December 19, 2006 I have a 10cc band and I'm holding 3.0 right now. Feels like the perfect restriction. Good luck.
tonya66 13 Posted December 19, 2006 Yes, I asked my doctor what type of band he uses, and he claims he uses the 10cc for everyone, sometime it takes more feels for some to get the right restricting, and sometimes it only takes 1 or 2. I really don't know the differenct either, but I guess he'll be putting a 10cc band in me. I did ask for a low profile port that he is special ordering. Not sure if that is going to make a difference or not, but I have read where some say it does not show as bad as the regular ports. So we'll see...... kym828 0 Posted December 19, 2006 i have the larger band and i was actually surprised my doc went with that one... i have a small waist compared to the rest of my body... its 39 inches and i have no fat rolls - i carry all my wt in my hips and thighs.... i have no idea why he went with the larger band but my starting bmi was 42% so maybe that had something to do with it. when i asked why i got the bigger band i was only told that the doc felt that would be best for me. i had surgery with 4 other people that day and they all got the small bands and they were all apple shaped women. however, i am way happy with my band right now...i got 4cc's for the first fill and so far i have just enough restriction to keep me from eating too much. kim
Dani-X 0 Posted December 27, 2006 I have the larger VG band and I love it. I went to a holiday party gor the NYU LapBand patients and some of the nurses were telling me they wished they had the larger bands. They feel they it's more forgiving when it comes to certain foods like vegetables and salads. Who knows! I love my band and am having great success with it. Although, I'm THRILLED that the holidays are over.
