Eating around other people

Recommended Posts

I told my friends, family and co-workers so they are not at all surprised when I order an appetizer and take half of it home. I also share. If I order a whole meal, I tell them to box up the sides and salad to take home for my husband. It really is true that most people could care less what other peoe eat or don't eat. Normal weight people sometimes only eat an appetizer. I did, before I got fat. Although we shed the weight quickly, we cannot shed the food obsession that fast. Just try to be as normal as you can and live your life. That is why you did all this, right?

If you go out with a SO or close friend or family member who knows and others who dont know then you can share a plate with the person you know. Also people are going to notice you are losing weight and if you choose not to tell them about the sleeve, you can tell them you are dieting and exercising. The smaller portions would be part of your diet. I am only 4 days post op but my fiance and I have already looked at the menus of our fav places and what I can and cannot eat once I am okayed for solid foods, for example since ive heard a lot of people have a hard time with carbs, I can go to our fav burger place and order it atop greens instead and probably eat only 1/4 of the burger and bring the rest home.

I'm almost 12 weeks out and have been out several times with people. Like most of the above posts said, no one really notices what you are or are not eating. We are usually to busy talking and catching up.Portions are so huge in restaurants these days, asking for a to go box is pretty much the norm.

I haven't told anyone except my boyfriend so when I go out I find it easier to say I'm on a no carb diet and order a couple of wings from the appetizer menu. You can just pick at them and no one really notices you aren't eating very much then I pass off some to my BF. if I'm not at that kind of establishment, I order Soup and salad to come before the others get their meals.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
