So I can't start my 6 months till I test negative for cotinine. so that means no smoking or chewing which I'm not a smoker but my whole family is and I was told to stay away from second hand smoke...well I can't seem to escape it even though I'm trying hard to avoid car rides and stand away from every one buy I keep inhaling bits of it. Hopefully that doesn't show up but if it does I'm staying in my room till my next test.....

That would be great so you can be healthy and avoid complications

its annoying though cause cotinine can stay in your body up to 30 days and I can't start my surgery process till I test negative for it

not a smoker - whole family is and I was told to stay away from second hand smoke..

Ashlie Marie

i know 2nd hand smoke is dangerous

that would be awful if the doc wouldn't allow you to have WLS do to others smoking :(

actually, i don't think he would do that

i understand about the smoking situation/issue

i never was a smoker - but we/most of us are aware of the draw backs/harm of smoking

(present smokers - just stating a fact - offense not meant to any of you personally - offense made to smoking in general

i can only imagine it is hard to kick the nicotine habit

"Maybe" some of your family (esp anyone that lives with you like DH or wife) have always tried to quit, and this gives them that extra motivation - to help you, not having that inhaled smoke

I know many people here on the board stopped smoking so they could have WLS

no more smoking is probably just as hard as no more bad, fatty foods et al

but we're changing our eating to get healthy with our new life - stopping smoking isn't a bad idea either for your family

good luck

kathy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
