Any Chicago sleevers

Recommended Posts

Thanks! I'm just starting. Going to seminars for NMH , Alexian Bros and St Joseph over the next week. Any advice, experiences, recommendations are appreciated. I've done searches and read a lot here but would always love more info. Thank you!

I was sleeved at St Joe's. Love Dr Lutfi! And the staff at his practice and the hospital were great! Also, I can put you in touch with the woman who made my pre-op and post-op shakes, broths , smoothies and Soups. I would not have made it without her. Send me a message if you are interested in more info.

I was sleeved at Alexian Brothers/Kane Center in Elk Grove Village three weeks ago. The staff and experience was awesome. I can't say enough positive things. The approval process was super easy. I'm now in love with all of the post surgery support.

I had my sleeve done at NMH on June 3rd. I went in on a Monday and was home that Wednesday. I loved the care that I received. NMH goal is to make sure the patient is number 1 and comfortable. In preop, I was given a small injection of lidocaine in the area I was to receive my IV, so that it would be painless. I was also given a inhaled medication to numb my throat. And I did not have the dreaded scratchy sore throat after surgery. And Dr. Hungness was my surgeon, he is awesome.

I had a private room at NMH and it was huge with a couch/bench. If I had wanted, I could have had someone stay overnight.

Private rooms at St. Joe's.

Decision could come down to which is most convenient. You'll spend a lot of time going back and forth to the center both before and after the surgery. For me, St Joe's was the most convenient. Plus my Primary Care Physician recommended Dr Lutfi and she has sent several patients to him -- all with great results!

Sorry to be the annoying newbie with too many questions - but here goes:

Does anyone have a downtown Chicago (preferrably near NW hospital) female primary care doc who is wls friendly? Also every time you see wls do you think of the radio station?

Thanks in advance!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
