Hey Ready, had my last appointment today. It went really well. They are submitting everything to the insurance either today or early next week. After I am approved I will have to schedule my surgery, go for blood work, ekg, x-rays and meet the anthesiologist. My fingers are crossed! I'm hoping it will not take long!

Diane - You and I are both just waiting on insurance now! Unless they gave you good news today...

readyanxiousscared - I only had two appointments with Dr. Berger. Blue Cross Blue Shield doesn't require a supervised diet so the process was a bit shorter than for most. Here's a breakdown of my appointments:

September 25 - Info Meeting

January 10 - Psych Eval

January 17 - NUT/Brenda and Dr. Elli

February 17 - Brenda, Dr. Berger, and bloodwork

February 21 - Psych Eval Follow-up

Febraury 25 - Dr. Berger, cleared to send everything to insurance

Ready-no weight gain since I started this process, UIC has been very serious about making sure you don't gain any weight! Amanda the nut said she wouldn't approve anyone that did, I don't know how serious they are but I really didn't want to find out.

New to the site got my surgery date of 3/18 at St. Alexin in Hoffman Estates with Dr. Guskey. Start with the preop shakes on Tues. Getting nervous and anxious. Wheaning off of some neuropathy meds cause can't get liquid forms so nerves are a little rattled. Anyone else ever use Dr. Guskey. Seems like a pretty compansionate guy.

I am excited and nervous have anxiety issues and work at a high stress job. Just wish I was off til after surgery. liquid diet gonna be tough when I work with behavioral disordered teen girls, they tend to know how to work your last nerve and afraid my patience will be short between now and the time for surgery.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
