Dr. Hungness is awesome and so are all of the nursing staff. Someone was always checking to see if I was in pain or if I needed anything. Plan to be in the hospital 2-3 days' date=' that's how long he keeps his patients. I had surgery on Monday and was home on Wednesday. My drain was removed before I was discharged.[/quote']

Good all I have heard was wonderful things about him so that really good to know... Yea they told me 2 days, i like that rather be sent home the next day.. I am sooo glad to hear the drain comes out b4 goin home. I didnt want to have to tend to that thing...

So I'm 5 days postop, surgery June 3rd. I haven't had a problem so far with Protein drinks and puréed foods. Today I had 2 1/2 oz of puréed Wendy's chili (protein packed) with some chili sauce. Omg! It wa like heaven and I was soooo stuffed. I hope that when I go for my postop visit I will be moved up to soft foods. I'm still amazed by how I can eat so little and be satisfied.

Thank you and good luck to you as well!!!

You are sweet, thank you so much for asking!

I'm 5 days post op. My surgery was on Tuesday with Dr. Nagle, and even though the procedure was perfect and I have no complications, I'm having a tough recovery. The surgical team was very professional, yet calm and friendly. The anesthesiologists chatted with me, and made jokes to put me at ease during pre-op. Dr. Nagle is an amazing surgeon, and I'm not only saying that because I have a big crush on him. ;) I was worried that maybe my liver didn't shrink enough, or that he'd having trouble getting around inside with my belly being so big, but he's extremely confident in his abilities (and he should be, because his record speaks for itself) and he promised that everything would be perfect. Most of the RNs were great, the PCTs were so kind about helping me on walks or checking to make sure I was comfortable, and the on-call doctors have been great with helping me through some discomfort I'm having.

I've had extreme nausea since my release, and getting liquids down is painful. Oddly, the nausea meds that were prescribed by the on-call doc make me feel even worse. My incisions are very tender, and I'm dealing with a lot of swelling. What people say about your taste buds changing is true in my case, because the Protein drinks I bought and enjoyed pre-op all taste like crap now. Make sure you get a variety stocked up at home for your first few days.

I wish everyone a quick and painless recovery!

The classes are full of info on the do's & don'ts post op. So far we've covered Fiber & Protein. Laurie is great and is willing to answer any question you may have. I just need to knock these last two out! I just really want my date. Then I think I'll be cool, but as for now I'm like a kid waiting on Christmas !

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
