christienaz 11 Posted May 26, 2013 Ok I need a little help. I am having rapid weight loss. Averaging about 3 1/2 pounds a day the past three days. I am only 5 days post op. I know about the weight you gain in the hospital due to the amount of fluids that you are given. I weighed myself when I got home (of course) and had only gained 3 1/2 pounds since day of surgery weight. Now I am down 14 lbs. from surgery day weight. I guess it is just a little scary. Is this normal??

danelle235 79 Posted May 26, 2013 I'm thinking it's good too! Down 17lbs in 11 days since surgery (to be fair, I think your discarded stomach weighs about 4lbs) and 24lbs since starting pre op on May 1st. The faster it's gone, the happier I will be!! Way to go!!! Let's do this!!
MystiGal 143 Posted May 26, 2013 I have lost 11 pounds in the 4 days I have been home from the hospital. I think everyone is different, but losing quickly right after surgery seems to be common.
katsmeow 70 Posted May 27, 2013 Oh to be back to that time period! Yes it's very normal. Remember your not eating very much at all. 1 MystiGal reacted to this
tempname123 37 Posted May 27, 2013 I've experienced the same thing. I did NOT gain weight from fluids in the hospital. I was in the hospi 2 nights and 3 days and when I came home I was 9lbs down. When I weighed after surgery I was 3lbs down. I am having a difficult time with gas, bloating, discomfort and fullness, yet I can't hardly keep anything down and I have diarrhea too. I'm worried about getting dehydrated but not worried about rapid weight loss. Doc said people who are nauseated and discomforted after surgery tolerate food best later on down the road and lose the most weight.
anniemay 150 Posted May 27, 2013 This happened to me exactly. Then in week two. Nothing. Nada. Waiting for it to break

christienaz 11 Posted May 28, 2013 Thanks everyone for the information. I guess when you try year after year to lose weight and then it just starts falling off you think "this can't be right". 1 ProudGrammy reacted to this
