Rox 200 Posted May 26, 2013 I just watched some great videos on You Tube of Dr. Guillermo Alvarez explaining the differences of banding vs sleeving. He makes a compelling case for the sleeve procedure 1 ksredhead reacted to this
Arts137 1,811 Posted May 26, 2013 Scroll down, Roz. There is an entire tab entitled "research and statistics". Also the "Big Book of the Vertical Sleeze..." is very detailed.
LisaLoseAlotx2 147 Posted May 27, 2013 You will not find medical "statistics" ...the reason being is that the medical industry has only done the lapband and gastric sleeve against a five and ten year standard. The sleeve is only 7-8 years out, so there is no 10 year data yet. When they compared the lapband to the sleeve at the 5-year mark, they discovered that the lapband has provided a 50-70% of bodyweight weight loss - in other words, someone who wants to lose 70 lbs will only see 50-70% of that actually happen. That is the standard for 60% of the lapband population so they consider that a 60% success rate. 40% would be considered a failure (that would be me) due to no fault of their own (think slippage, metabolic failure, erosion, etc) At the 5-year mark, the sleeve was coming in at a 75-90% success rate over long term. The 10-year study will be out in the next two years I interviewed my fill doctor here in washington state extensively back in February before making my decision to remove my lapband and have a gastric sleeve. MystiGal 143 Posted May 27, 2013 There are statistics showing that 85% of Lapband patients end up doing the revision to a Sleeve. Google is going to be the best way to find the statistics you are looking for. 1 Hynita reacted to this
