Sleevedmedic 59 Posted May 26, 2013 I am having pain that kind of feels like gas pains but happens when I drink the most. But it does happen by itself even if I don't have nothing to drink. I am only 2days post op. if any one could tell me if this is normal.
MIJourney 490 Posted May 26, 2013 I'd say it's pretty normal. I had it after each sip for at least 4 days out. Got better each day. Gone now when drinking liquids.< /p>

I am only 2days post op. if any one could tell me if this is normal. I'm 4days post op and today I've been having the same trouble after every time I take a drink of something, I was really concerned because it wasn't happening yesterday, I did have a hiatal hernia repair done and didn't know if it was related or not. The pain is right below my sternum and lasts a minute or so. I'm having a hard time getting my fluids in today because of it.
Sleevedmedic 59 Posted May 26, 2013 Yea I get my liquids in just pretty uncomfortable doing so but I just don't want to get dehydrated or anything so I just try to fight through the pain. Some times is worse than others.

I am only 2days post op. if any one could tell me if this is normal. Completely normal, It's like esophagus spasms. My dr gave me a med that would help. But even now at three months out I have horrible chest pains if I drink to fast or too much. You will learn your body/sleeve but it might take awhile. Good Luck and congrats on your new journey! 1 Brenda0928 reacted to this
Healthiernewme 81 Posted May 26, 2013 Totally normal. It will get better every day, and will go away after a couple of days.
nanaspez 58 Posted May 26, 2013 You might be drinking too fast, I know sometimes I do, then I get that pain. Maybe gas.. using GasX and walk as much as I can. Hope it gets better soon
Sleevedmedic 59 Posted May 26, 2013 Thanks everyone that makes it a little easier knowing it will get better and that other people have had the same problem
Jen35 283 Posted May 26, 2013 I was sleeved 5/22 with a hernia repair and I have the same thing. Every drink I get what feels like a gas bubble under my sternum, but it usually goes away pretty quickly (usually after I burp). My surgeon explained it to me like our stomachs are a clogged drain and when liquids go down it can "glug" air back up. I hope it goes away soon!

skrubabilen 41 Posted May 26, 2013 Try drinking smaller sips or only swallowing part of the liquid in your mouth. Then when that passes, swallow the rest. I'm almost 3 weeks out and it most definitely does get better. Good luck!
